Reputedly good for the heart. My favourite is Cabernet Sauvinion, when you taste it, take a sip, bow your head and suck air through your teeth.................you will go on to enjoy the rest of the bottle...........

Out of all these answers, you've only gotten a few good ones - lol

Anyone who said cabernet sauvignon or shiraz is right, but we'll get more specific in a minute...

The person who said Italian Valipocella is right on... nicely fruity and smooth and soft... also Riojas... we'll get more specific in a minute.

I think, if you're going for health benefit and taste for someone who's not a wine drinker... plus value... (you probably don't want to pay a fortune here!) then here's a list of wines to try:

Montecillo Rioja Crianza

Lindemans Bin 50 Shiraz

Concannon Petite Syrah

Monte Antico Toscana

Gallo of Sonoma Merlot (this is NOT "Ernest and Julio Gallo" - do not buy anything that says that on the label... nasty stuff... the Gallo of Sonoma is all pretty good wine)

Columbia Crest Two Vines Merlot

Fetzer Valley Oaks Merlot

Blackstone Merlot

Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon

Gallo of Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon

Columbia Crest Grand Estates Cabernet Sauvignon

Rosemount Cabernet Merlot

Osborne Solaz

If you really want budget and yet tasty... get Citra Montepulciano D'Abruzzo or Concha Y Toro Frontera Cabernet Merlot. You can get these in 1.5liter bottles for less than $10 (this is the size of two normal wine bottles)

Invest $10 in a vacuum sealer for the wine bottle. When you've poured your glass for the evening, use the vacuum sealer and store the wine in the fridge. When you come home, pour your wine out into a glass and by the time you change and get dinner ready, it will be the right temp to drink. It will just keep better in the fridge.

If you're after ease and value... there is ONE boxed wine that I can recommend. It's not the old vinyl bladder inside, but a new mylar device being used by the Aussies. It's called Waltzing Vine Cabernet Sauvignon and you can just keep the box (with spout - handy) on the counter. No air gets to the wine because of the collapsing bladder and heavy duty mylar design. The mylar imparts no flavor to the wine so it tastes just as Waltzing Vine does from a glass bottle. A 3liter box (four bottles of wine) is about $15.

If you have access to a Trader Joe's, I have a whole list for there where each wine is less than $5 a bottle - feel free to e-mail me by clicking on my name. If you go to my profile, you can e-mail me from there :)

Salut!

They say that a glass of red wine a day is good for the heart. I'd recommend a nice cabernet sauvignon, preferably late season so you get all that nice pulp in the bottom of the bottle.

Red wine is good for your heart. A glass a night is best. Try Shiraz, it is really mild and most beginner wine drinkers like it. Aussie and Napa Shiraz is good.

Any French red is also really good but you will pay a premium for it and won't really tell a difference between French wine and Napa wine.

Yes it is good for the heart.
I wouldn't recommend any. Keep trying until you find one that you like. Red wine is a very individualistic taste. It can be great fun finding your favourite!!

Alway's in moderation. If you are just starting on the reds, then I suggest something Italian Valpolicella or Chianti because they are light and easy drinking.

My personal favourites are Rioja's: Campo Viejo and Torres Coronas - medium density, vanilla flavours, very slight oaky taste.

Remember you get what you pay for. £5+ and you should be OK
