Bush is just a Power-Hungry maniac. And it isn't the 60's anymore when people gave a damn. Nowadays people just sit but and let row over. I hate to say it but Chavez and France are right, Americans are Ignorant (not to be confused with stupid, which most Americans don't know the difference which will prove my point). So they just believe whatever they see on the News. Which is conveniently controlled by the Right Wingers.

There's torture and then there's tactics. Due to the amount of pressure we've now put on our interrogators, they have to treat suspected terrorists (often these men have damning evidence against them, which cannot be used yet because of it's sensitive nature) better than we treat common criminals in our legal system or even our own soldiers. Do your research before you make slanderous claims like this. No, I'm sure he wouldn't enjoy torute, and he wouldn't enjoy the tactics commonly used against POWs by interrogators. That's the point. You're not supposed to be nice to terrorists, who have information that could save lives if they release it. Keep them up for 24 hours so they lose a little mental capacity and let something slip. Turn the AC down to get their stress levels up so they let something slip. Yell, scream, beat the snot out of a trash can with a bat... Don't kill them. Don't threaten to kill them. Don't break bones or bruise them. Don't cut them. But for pete's sake... without stressing them out, we can't get anything out of them.

Congress has done 2 things we didn't have before and which are not in the Geneva Convention .
We now have a legal definition of " enemy combatant " and a list of acceptable interrogation techniques .

Now, the Supreme Court can approve or disapprove any part of the law .

I'd call that a protection of your rights because the DO'S and DON'TS are expressed , which they weren't before .

I seem to remember after WW2 that there were many serious criticisms of the Gestapo in Nazi Germany, torturing prisoners to get information. They did not follow the Geneva Conventions regarding treatment of prisoners.
If any country or democracy or dictator can simply say, we must do this in the interests of National Security and then have approval to pursue such a course of action we de-humanize ourselves. Animals do not torture, (dont reply that animals do not bomb each other please) and I think that the US has always been seen, wrongly, as it now turns out, as a country with high ideals of liberty, equality and democracy. These are now down the toilet, so to speak. Fear and national security and the military mind have stolen America's sense of justice. It must be said that if you are President and you wish to continue with torture, (sorry "methods"), you must say that the torture used so far has already saved lives etc etc . Of course Bush would not lie about that, he is an honorable man, or indeed about WMD, he is an honorable man, and so too are his team, all honorable men (yes even Condoleeza Rice). The answer to your important question is, ultimately, the people.

He did not change the law. And no I dont think he would like to be tortured. Now let me ask you a question. How do you think we should get information from the terriorist we have in captivity? Do you think our tax dollars should be spent on thier defense and if so should they be on trial before the war is over?
