Ding, Ding, Ding....

I like this one when they came 'a knockin'

If the bible is supposed to be the inspired work of god and god is infallible, how come the bible contains so many contradictions.

One as only to do a casual reading of the Bible to see that it contains lies. Abraham lied to the king, traying to pass of Sarah as his sister rather than his wife. Issac repeated the same lie with his wife Rebekkah. David lied to the priest when fleeing from Saul by saying that the king had sent him when he had not. Peter lied three times when he denied knowing Jesus. All these and more are in the Bible.

But every one of those lies is the truth. They are true and accurate records of the lies these people told (and the consequences than came from lies - such as the priest to whom David lied was killed by Saul for helping David).

Do men lie? Yes. Are those lies recorded in the Bible? Yes - as lies. Is the Bible itself a lie? No. It is an accurate and factual record of the dealings between God and man. While it was the hand of a man that moved the pen, it was the breath of God that formed the words.

The people who came to your door were almost certainly Jehovah's Witnesses. They are taught a certain patter, but if you ask searching questions they are unable to answer, as they are insufficiently acquainted with the Bible. "All Scripture is God breathed", as we read in 2 Timothy 3 v.16, meaning that the Bible, although penned by the physical efforts of men, is inspired by God. Not everyone who quotes Scripture is truthful, as there have been false teachers around for thousands of years, but the Word of God, having been inspired by the Spirit of Truth, is trustworthy.

what is a lie?i believe a lie is a lie if it concerns you.if i still 5 from you and someone else ask me if i took 5 from you and i say no then it is not a lie,it is not buddies business.if YOU ask me and i say no that is a lie.if there is an accident and 10 people saw it,their will be 10 different stories, lies? no,this is what they saw.the ones whom wrote the bible don't lie, this is what they saw,who are we to judge?i am given the same universe and i can write my own book about what i see,it does not mean it is the book for all.this is what they saw,i can only read it and use the good stuff to write my own.the bad stuff i do not use.

Like a business person telling his or her Secretary to type a letter, the Secretary may write it but the message is inspired by the boss. Same way the bible is written with each person having their own personality of writing.

If you think the bible lies why would the persons in the bible write their fault's???

Not as you intimate, no.

A man can lie - he can say something that is clearly wrong when compared with facts.

But the bible cannot lie - for all it is, is a novel/storybook written by a load of people - its only stories - no facts, nothing to convince an intelligent human to think otherwise. The bible has no place in a place of reason. Nada.

The Bible is the inspired Word of God. God wrote it, man put pen to paper. But search the Bible for yourself. Humankind as a whole will lie, cheat, steal, etc. for its own gain.

Find your own truth in the gospel. Do not rely on door-to-door salesmen.

Hopefully soon you can find a church that teaches the truth.

That is *such* a good point! You'd expect it to be a bit wrong anyway, what with it being passed on by word of mouth for however many hundreds of years. Are humans not prone to embellish things a little bit with each retelling?
Also, why did someone say that lying is not in God's nature? I thought God couldn't be understood with the human mind. I think that may be yet another contradiction.
As to "all scripture is God breathed" - the proof?

when the bible was written, it was written with over 120 gospels and various other scriptures that were written by man accounting the true story of Jesus Christ.
however in the C4th it was rewritten by Constantin and he cast aside any biblical entries that portrayed Jesus Christ as a normal man wanting more people to believe in him, also casting aside Mary Magdalenes gospel because at that time it was not right for a woman to have a part in that kind of writing.
therefore looking at it this way, todays bible could be portrayed as a lie because it misses out important scriptures that were destroyed. man played a part in this, so therefore man is to blame.
this could also explain contradictions in the bible, as they could easliy havebeen changed by Constantin, and plus through translation things have lost more and more meaning.

the bible was not writen by one man alone.... it was written in chapters and a lot of prophets and kings were included in the testaments... so it was a group effort..somehow certain ones were picked to be in the bible.....there is some proof that they did not all lie because it talks of wars and things that did happen and were recorded elsewhere..so not all of it can be lies as for their interpretations and dreams one can only ready what they thought at the time it meant and as for the other stuff well who knows..

The bible is not based on the thought of man or what he thinks is right but it is based on what God says. Man therefore wrote what God told him to wrote and it is therefore not from man's imagination that the bible was written from..
