I detest it and fear for the coming generations because it seems to be the young people who can't spell. And I know the difference between computer speak and typos and just plain ignorance. And the people who are just learning the language have an excuse and I commend them for learning a second language especially English, as it is the hardest language to learn. But I can also tell the non English speakers from the stupid Americans. Sorry if you are offended by the stupid label, but if you can not spell common words, you are STUPID !!!

Yes, but I try to understand and not get upset because then I will find a mistake of my own. Although, I sometimes wonder if the future kids will be writing in computerese and not know what a full sentence or even capitalization is. Can you imagine a novel written that way? I'm sure someone will probably do it.

It is indeed irritating to have to guess what people mean, especially when they don't know the difference between there, they're, and their, or substitute single letters for full words like u for you, n for and, etc. Come on, people. This isn't text messaging where every character typed costs more money to send or is slow to enter via the phone keypad, and the 'check spelling' feature is easy to use! And just about everyone is taught how to use a computer, which includes how to use a keyboard. I guess some people just aren't up to the task, eh?

It drives me crazy too - the whole point of language, whether it is speech or the written word, is to communicate ideas. When I try to read some of the questions on this site, it is really hard to understand exactly what is the question.
If someone is not English speaking, then that is not usually a problem, I think the worst ones are the ones who just can't spell or use good grammar.

Only when I am sure that the one writing should know enough to correct it.
Many on this site are not native English speakers and are using this site and others to practice and learn. Some times it is not easy to know the difference.

No. When I start to notice it, then it's just a sign that I'm bored here, and so I quit to do something else.

It irritates me to no end. People don't seem to care anymore that how you communicate is always a first indication of your intelligence.

I can't stand it either. It's so annoying. They went to school just like we did. We learned how why can't they?? I wonder how many of them do that on purpose cause they know we can't stand it??? It sure don't impress me one little bit. Whatever they're smoking, they better get off of it.

Yes, it completely bothers me... I hate the messages that say things like "u r 2 gud 2 b 4gotn" and other "shortcuts" like that. How long does it take to type? NOT LONG. I am glad that others share my pain!! :-)
