start with your general practicioner, they should be able to prescribe anti-inflammatories and show your simple jaw exercises.

If you want something fixed go to a mechanic. If you want the problems diagnosed acurately and then treated accordingly your going to need a specialist in the field. Most dentist lack the specialized skills and equipment necesssary to solve an advanced TMJ problem (myself included). Most of the time we try a nightguard and(with the condyle set in MAP, not MIP he he) hope that it allieviates the problem (not solves). If it doesn't then we refer out. What ever the solution the more it affects your daily function, then generally speaking he more extreme the cure.

dentist, preferably one specializing in 'jaw' problems or a chiropractor can help too....tmj means temporal mandibular joint which is the point where the lower jaw hinges to the upper, right in front of the ear...you must have had some trauma to that area or grind or clinch your jaw (teeth)....some times the dentist will recommend a mouth guard or something like it and/or the chiropractor can do some adjustments to help relieve the tenseness. good luck its painful and can cause headaches, neck pain, ear pain, wear the enamel on your teeth down and cause damage to the nerves of the teeth over time.

supposedly an ear, nose, and throat specialist. my daughter had tmj and once when her jaw was completely locked that's where her pediatrician sent her. lot of good tho, he basically tried to pry her jaw open, said, "yep, it's stuck", and said he'd inject some water in her to loosen it up, or do surgery. we just left and that particular episode cleared up on it's own. it still happens to her from time to time and lasts for about a day or so, but i guess it it ever got more severe we'd look into other options .... good luck!

Bill Gottlieb's book ALTERNATIVE CURES has a chapter on it, as does Prescription For Natural Cures (Balch and Stengler). You will find good advice and info in both books. Hope it helps.
