are you kidding me?? Someone is pulling your husband's leg. Granted, most Asian languages are based off old school Chinese, but they are all different. Even in China alone there are different dialects of Chinese that are spoken. So no, Japanese and Chinese people do not speak the same language. Some perhaps can understand and pick up on the other a little bit, but they do not have a universal language that both speak.
