Urgent!! I leave to go on vacation Thursday and I'm curious to know if there's a way to somehow lock my bedroom door while having it ajar for my cat's to enter and exit. I need to prevent my roommate from entering. Is there chain and key method I could use?

Can you ask a friend to take your babies for the week or so that you are gone? Even if you do put a chain on the door and leave it open, the litter box is going to be really nasty when you get back. It's going to bother your roommate, and it might bother the cats enough so that they'll poop on your bed. See if you can find a "cat hotel" if that's not a possibility.

Not really as that would have to be done from the inside of the door to prevent a human from opening it as well. Put their food and stuff in there along with their litter and lock them in the room or put it out somewhere else and lock them all the way out.

By they way if you dont trust your roommate then why do you live together? That's a bad situation and seems like you would always be worrying about them going in your room.

Just get a heavy duty chain lock on the door. The chain will be long enough for your cats to get in and out but short enough to stop your roommate from entering. Don't be worried if the chain looks too short for your cats to get through, you'd be amazed what sort of spaces they can get in and out of.

Install a 8x8 inches access door (Just below with flip in and out cover) for your cat entry and exit point. This is to ensure that no one can access your room, except your cat. Call a carpenter and he definitely knows what to do.

This is really easy. Go to a hardware store. And buy a lock and key. And lock it. But before you go, put a small unoticeable string on top of the lock, so you can tell whether they attempted to come in or not.

make a cathole in the door! if you use a chain.. remember theres a slim chance the cat may shut the door closed after its in, then how does it get back out?? hungry cat, angry dead cat!

Give the cat his own key.

Have someone install a small pet door, or do it yourself
