Unless you can prove you (or whomever you are referring to) are an emancipated minor, you can not work on the fishing boats.

The US has labor laws that prevent minors from working in "dangerous" occupations.

Even if you could provide proof that you are an emancipated minor and legally can work in the US, chances are no one is going to hire you as you are too young, unless you have something tremendous to offer (certified captain, been commercial fishing for years, etc).

Jobs on the fishing boats can be tough to come by. Most legitimate seafood jobs can be found through the State of Alaska job centers, by being "connected" and know someone, or just by being in the right place at the right time when a captain needs someone. To make it worse for you, I believe the State will not assist foreign nationals in finding seafood employment.

Beware of scams as well. If you have to pay for information, do not buy it. Just like any job, finding seafood work should be free to you (unless you hire a reputable job finder).

For what it is worth, here is the State of Alaska's website on finding seafood jobs:

http://www.labor.state.ak.us/esd_alaska_jobs/

Working the fishing boats is tough work and taxes you both mentally and physically. Alaska is also an expensive place to live with few good paying jobs.

I'd highly recommend staying home.

No I've been a commercial fisherman for 6 years. They don't like illegals working on the boats.. Not to mention he is too young. He has to be a least 18. They can get in huge trouble for having an illegal on thier boat becuase they come in from international waters.

There are a lot of illegals working in the processing plants..but the locals really give them a hard time because they take jobs away from the Native Americans which traditionally work there. Either way Alaskans don't look kindly on illegal immigrants. These are hardy people...they don't like BS

There are cannery jobs you can probably get during the summer. You would not be able to legally work on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska.

Oh for heavens sake guys, I donno where any of them are from but 1 legal working age is 16 not 18, 14 if you can get a permit which requires a legal guardian signature. 2 how in the hell is fishing dangerous? Unless you get seasick haha. 3 You're not an illegal immigrant if you get the right paperwork, just like everything else on earth. Come on up an take a peek around first an see if ya like it, then go home and have a cup of tea an think it over an THEN come back.
