The first time this happened to me I was insulted! I started to notice that everyone was being call "guys", even a group of girls in bikinis, so I didn't feel so bad. Whatever happened to "guys and gals" or "guys and dolls"? Are we becoming a unisex society?

Mm, I know what you mean but I think a lot of feminine versions of words are dropping out of use. Just easier to generalise I guess. When I or other people use the term "guys" I just see it as being another word for "people".

People take short cuts to everything these days! It has just become a slang expression that covers everyone. You are right, we are becoming a unisex society....look how many females are in "pants"! Neither of my grandmothers owned a pair of jeans....do not even recall seeing my mother, aunts, or anyone in them until later years. Women have given up their femininity too easily, I fear! Men still like to see their ladies in skirts, and dresses. We even cut our locks short to men's styles, so is it any wonder when they see up with chopped locks, and pants, that they call us "you guys"? Women have also had to take over thinking for the "wimps" that stand for nothing....as they are often afraid of making the wrong decisions...again, women are becoming more and more the "head of the household". Too bad...so sad in many ways, but we do see the strengths of women in all areas of living today...often in the role that God intended for men. There's only one area we are unalike, and that requires major surgery! No thanks! Please don't feel insulted...perhaps it should be viewed as a "compliment". I'm sure no harm was meant....just another "guy" thing!

Remember the reference going back to the 70s & being quite acceptable; not so new or cutting edge after all.

i think it sounds better than dude. i hated it when i was called dude. lol.

i don't think guy's is strictly the meaning for boys any more. it's a word people use for groups of people.

good day.
