Ask your doctor for a depression questionnaire (or find one on-line) If you find you are depressed, believe me, anti-depressants can make a world of difference. Real clinical depression IS chemical, and early waking is one symptom. But need to know if that's really the problem. No need to suffer when help is available. It's no different from diabetes or heart disease. It is physical. No shame or weakness. Often genetic.

Human beings in general, require 6 to 8 hours sleep. If your sleep is less than 6 hours and still you wake up at 4 AM, then you must exercise in the morning. The exercise should include Running ( Sprint ) and aerobics.
In the evening, if you find time, try to go for a swim and if that is not possible, then try for some yoga. Avoid heavy exercises, tea/coffee or cigarettes before going to bed. Take a glass of milk a few minutes ( 30 - 45 minutes ) before going to bed. Do not think about money, career or work in the evening time. Watch comedy on TV. Try "smile meditation" for a 10 minutes before going to bed. You can find the method of smile meditation from google search.

Hi, There could be many reasons for you constantly waking up at a set time every morning but there are a few things you can do to help.
1. DONT drink tea or coffee just before you go to bed, many people think it helps relax you before you go to bed but both drinks are stimulants so give them a miss for a while.
2. EXERCISE, EXCERCISE, EXCERCISE....Excercise will obviously make you more tired but it also relieves stress and relaxes muscles.
3. WIND DOWN, Try not to go to bed after being on the go all evening. Try going to bed half an hour earlier and either read a book or try meditation or relaxation excercises.
4. DONT HAVE A TV IN YOUR BEDROOM, This may sound a bit harsh but people watching TV in the bedroom is one of the biggest causes of disturbed sleep or irregular sleeping patterns.
Watching TV stimulates your mind and your eyes and going straight to sleep or worse still falling assleep whilst watching the TV will mean that all your brain cells are still active. Also if you fall assleep whilst the telly is on the lights and sounds in the room may well disturb you.
5. MOST IMPORTANTLY TAKE HERBS, HERBS, HERBS......Try drinking herbal tea before bed as it WILL help you relax, Try a more calming tea like cammomile as others like Fruit Teas and peppermint etc are better for the morning. Echinacea is great either in a tea or a herb from the health store as this will help your immune system, help you relax and relieve stress.
Hope this helps.......

I go to bed at about 6:00 pm at night and get up for whatever reason at 12:00 midnight...and love it...but in your case,...the best thing to do is to stay up a couple of hours later than normall.as your body clock is set for you for a certain amount of hours sleep and then you're waking up...Some times over the counter like nytol helped me in the past..but as for now. I love my weird hours and all the news first and computer fun lol..good luck

Well, I have faced this problem earlier. As someone else puts it try getting some exercise druing the day. The fatigue makes you take that much mroe rest. Also have a shower before you sleep or maybe drink a glass of milk too. Ensure that the room you sleep in has enough air circulation as well.

There must be some reason you get up at that hour. Going to the bathroom, blankets around the neck, heat or a/c coming on etc. What time do you go to bed? If you go to bed too early, then this can cause you to wake up too soon.
The best thing to do is to see what is the cause and deal with that.

I suffer from something similiar from time to time; its generally your mind telling you it is upset with something in your life.
When this happens to me, I take a good hard look at my life and try to be as truthful with myself as possible; okay, somethings wrong here and I need to change it!
Sometimes, I also find that if I do some kind of strenous activity before I go to bed then I don"t have this problem but it only works sometimes.
In short man; you need to have a resort of your life if you want a good nights sleep.

You may have an internal clock set to "go off" at 4am. Get up and start doing stuff. You will eventually either be so tired that you sleep longer, or you will wind up going to bed earlier in order to feel refreshed at 4am. My sister gets up at 3am every day but she goes to bed at 7pm every night. Her kids are like that also. If I don't call early enough, they are all in bed. She has been like that since we were kids. Some people are just early birds. In fact, except for me and my immediate family, the rest of my family is like that. If you are normally like that you may as well get used to it, but if is out of the norm for you, then it could be any of the things that were mentioned previously such as exercising before bed, stress, or caffeine before going to bed.
