A good bit of both would be just fine.

From your name I presume you are an Indian. From the tone of your question I again presume that yours was an arranged marriage.
Since I do not know about the background or the level of orthodoxy that your present family adheres to, I find it rather difficult to give you an absolute answer.
However, I shall say this much. You have used a word that should be used as the foundation stone of your married life, viz. "UNDERSTANDING". This has to be a two way street in your life. Both your husband and you will have to learn to adjust and adapt to each others habits and oddities. If you can, the time to start is immediately. You must talk to each other and try and understand each others expectancies, likes, dislikes and foibles.
Once the understanding is established, the word like comes into play. You learn to genuinely like each other. Once the liking makes each of you indispensable to each other, then and only then does love come into the picture.
Sex is an integral part of married life, but is not the ULTIMATE and ONLY part.
I wish you luck and a happily married life. May God Bless the Two of You.

Marriage needs a lot of love and a lot of sex to survive. You can love and have a wonderful marriage..but sex is sooo good..and it relieves a lot of stresses and helps keep the 'love alive'.
