I have an XP reinstallation disk and want to make a copy (in case I lose/break the original). I tried just copying the content to my hard drive then burning it to a CD, but when I restart, the system doesn't prompt me to startup from the CD drive.

Any Ideas?

it's not illegal to copy your cd's if you own the original. When you buy XP from the store or computer manufacturer, you are buying a license, not a cd. You are basically paying $200 for the string of numbers on that little orange sticker on the cd's sleeve. That's all Microsoft cares about. Just copy it like you would any other CD.

You need to do a CD to CD copy as copying the files to the hard drive then to a CD you are not copying the bootable part of the CD

I had a CDRW CDROM and it wouldn't copy some CD's and I found out that it wouldn't copy something on the disc (I can't remember what it was not but bascially my CDROM was too old) so I bought a new one and it worked.

You can download software to check the CD and assess if it can be copied and will tell you why it can't if it's unable to.

use your cd burning software and do a disc to disc copy. There should be no need to copy to your computer unless your gonna make an image of the disc for offline storage.
