I heard that since 1.of november when you live on post in the us you get money to pay for your own water, light and trash if you go over that amount you have to pay out of your own pocket.
Is it true?????...info got put out in stars and strips.
I hope its not true ...if it is how much do you get?
If it is true...what do you think about it?
-----------------------------------------
i think its sucks...whats the point moving on post if it is so?!!!!

some PPV housing areas are going to this. basically, what it means is that part of your BAH(all of which you give to PPV anyway) will be set aside to cover the utilities. An average usage limit will be set as a standard, and if your utilities usage falls below that ceiling, you will not have to pay out of pocket. However, if it does, you will be charged the difference.
it is a measure to encourage energy conservation, as it seems to be that we waste our resources terribly while living in housing, because we are not paying fo rit ourselves.
Eventually, all military Family Housing will be PPV, and they will all be on this program. Needless to say, this is the LAST time we intend to voluntarily live in housing.

I don't have all the info on it, but yes, it's true. I don't know when or where it's going to start, but they talk about it often here. Especially as new housing is finally being built to replace some of the ghetto stuff. Quite honestly, the reason why is because the people living in post housing are abusing the privilege. In the winter, they set the thermostat to 80 and in the summer, they set it to 60. There's other reasons as well. However, it's costing a fortune just to heat and cool the housing units. I have no idea how much you'll be allotted or what comes out of pocket. However, I do think it's fair. You still won't be paying rent or insurance or anything that those of us who live off post pay. Our BAH has never been enough to cover rent, utilities and renters insurance. You'll still have it made if they give you money to cover the utilities. You'll just have to learn to regulate it like the rest of us. Everything else will still be free. Not a bad deal at all.

I haven't heard that, and I would like the link to the story. This sounds more like a "I heard from so-and-so, who heard it from so-and-so, who heard it...".
If the military were required to pay their own utility bills, they would be given a set amount that would be determined by the average cost for utilities in the area. Then, if you went over, you would pay out of your pocket. This is the same rule about housing overseas. The military only allots the service member so much for rent. If he goes over that amount, it will be paid out of pocket.
My opinion, it's a good thing. There are too many people out there who have no concept of how much things cost. This would put a little pressure on them to keep the costs down. It would also reduce the military's bill, but that's another question.

I live on post at Fort Jackson, SC and we do not have to pay anything. But most of the military sold there housing and you have to pay if you go over your alloted amount for the utilities. In 2008 Ft. Jackson will also be doing this. It is cheaper utilities and you very well could go the whole year with out having to pay. It still stinks though. You have to pay for everything in the military.

If the government quarters have been privatized, then YES, they are trying to treat them like rental properties now... everyone was complaining that govt. quarters sucked, so they have been re-built and renovated, now you have to rent them w/your BAH and a portion of BAH will be used for utilities...
I think they are trying to make people take responsibility and conserve energy, instead of acting like oh I'll leave all the lights on, Uncle Sam is footing the bill.
I personally live off post because there is no way in Hell I'm going to rent a set of quarters, when I can own my own home for less. Good luck and contact military one source, I'm sure they'll have more information for you!

No it's not true, The military will give you a BAH (basic allowence for housing) 742.00 - 900.00 a month for bills, plus what you or your spouce is making, thats for food and other things.
If you happen to live in a beraks then you will not get the allowence because all bills are payed anyway. And you have the chow hall, which I do not recomend unless its breakfast.
the only way you would get it privately, is if you were a very high ranking officer. if the person is just enlisted such as a lance corporal all the way up to Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, there is no way. You would get basic housing ( good sized duplexes.

I'm not Army but My husband is Air Force... We will be moving on base *McChord A.F.B.,WA* and Some of the base housing is free and some you have to pay for... The housing office told us that they give you a BAH on base and if we go over on our utilities we will have to pay out of pocket...It's not as expensive as living off base... It's alot better than what I pay right now... My rent is $1,005.00 a month for a 2 bedroom P.O.S. I've lived in better mobile homes than the apartment I'm in... And our utilities are well over $200.00... Our BAH is only $1038.00 a month...I'll take my chances on base... I'll feel safer and it'll be cheaper for us.. Plus we'll get a house that has 4 bedrooms because we have 3 kids... That's much better than the 2 bedroom we're in now..

The housing is owned via the protection rigidity, it quite is leased and controlled via an outdoors corporation. the protection rigidity won't sell housing in any respect, particularly despite if it quite is on positioned up. it quite is then federal land. The PPV corporation seems after the housing, they do upkeep, changes, and so on... you will get a # to call if a restoration desires to be achieved. This are at no value to you. you will do a stroll by way of earlier you progression in, ensure you're taking photos of each and every little thing so which you have it as data if any declare is made once you progression out. Any marks on the partitions, upkeep you may desire to have observed earlier you settle for the keys. you will would desire to pay for the pass to on base housing your self so which you're conscious. BAH then is going to the PPV corporation/Housing. You pay for cable, information superhighway and contact out of your individual pocket. some housing does have limits on electrical energy - in case you bypass over you pay/while you're under you get credit. because of the fact the housing is PPV you pay in strengthen for the month you progression in, so in case you progression in on the fifteenth you pay prorated to the tip of the month. If the PPV corporation gets the money/hire then they are going to deliver you a reimbursement examine yet in many cases they gained't. they actually gets a commission for the hire at month's end. $900 for a a million mattress room house is wide-unfold for many places in San Diego, Honolulu, and so on.. it easily would be extra desirable than that. ETA: If housing is PPV (privatized) he nonetheless gets BAH on his pay, yet there is an computerized deduction each and each month to the corporation. It would not disappear like it use to earlier it became privatized. some housing particularly places (not Alaska) have set expenses for housing so if your BAH is over that then you definately preserve something. they have achieved this for years in Hawaii on Kbay with what's asserted as 802/801 Housing. the common is desperate at E4 BAH often or E5, something extra desirable than which you shop, yet you're constrained to a 2 mattress room place.

i am stationed at fort stewart. we live in privatized housing, but we do not pay for utilities yet. the new homes have to be metered for a year and they aren't close to completing the the tear down of older quarters and rebuilding of new ones. eventually everyone will be paying utilities. if you don't consume and waste, then you won't have to pay alot. you may even get a refund.

I've been hearing about this for 10 yrs now.
I don't doubt they'll do it. It is more a matter of when they can due to housing differences.
