My little girl is just over 10 months old and was starting to sleep through the night before her teeth came in. Now she has 4 with 2 more on the way and she will not sleep for more than 4 hours during the night without wanting a feed.

We've tried to water her milk down but she wakes earlier as its not filling her. She wakes crying, we try everything before resorting to the bottle then once shes full she goes back off to sleep.

We've tried everything we can think of and are desperate for some sleep, please help.

She is on solids. She has her supper (baby rice) at about 7pm, then a nice warm bath where she plays for a while then its down time, ready for bed, bottle (she usually takes 6oz) then bed. She is eating ok and doing ok during the day. We have had her in the same routine since she was born practically. I'm gonna send her to live with her grandma if she carries on.

She gets Baby rice mixed with fruit or pudding for supper, she gets her tea (usually home made veg with something and a sweet) between 4.30 and 5pm and she eats quite a bit during the day.

We tried her with just water during the night and I've never seen a strop like it. She screamed for about 5 mins then got quite violent hitting me and her dad and knocking the bottle out of our hand. We ended up giviing her 2ounces of milk to 6 of water and she drank it then wouldnt settle. Its looking like a comfort thing rather than a hunger one as she does eat a lot.

I'll give you the advice I was given but I warn you, it's heartbreaking & isn't instant!

I was pregnant with twins & my daughter was about the same age as yours, she was waking at 4 every morning for milk! My health visitor told me to replace the milk with water & leave her to cry herself back to sleep. The first night was hell, she cried & cried & after going back to her (to reassure her) many, many, MANY times she finally went back to sleep! The next couple of nights she had the water, cried for about 5 mins & went back to sleep. By the end of the first week she wasn't waking at all until 6am which was perfectly fine by me!

It's very hard to keep to it when she's crying for you you want to go & give in but in the long run if you stick to it you'll be less tired therefore happier which means she will be happier!

Good luck!

If she is on solid food I would keep her on her regular routine but right before bed give her a small amount of solid food again and then the bottle, if I understood right you water her bottle down, I don't understand why you would do that, if that is the case don't feed it like it should be, also, if it is you are sure it is her teeth waking her then before putting her to bed give her some medication for her teeth whatever is safe for her to take that way it is in her system already you might also make sure you have a cold teething ring in the bed with her so if she wakes up she can find it to help her teeth, I know I always feed my children solid food right before bed at around 2 wks. old, of course they say don't do that but they both turned out fine, anyway from 2wks. old they always sleep through the night even when teething. Just a suggestion to maybe help you out, you can take it or leave but I hope if you take it you get some rest, if not and you are a stay at home mom then if she sleeps during the day then you sleep at the same time which will help with the tension, just remember this too will pass so do what you can to get sleep so you can enjoy her while she is young because TRUST me they grow up way to fast. Good Luck

Most kids go through this and the best advice is to let her cry it out i know its hard but it works i don't think its because she is hungry, feeding her is just a comfort thing for her and as you say she is teething so this may be the problem try giving her some calpol and water when she wakes but don't talk to her when doing this or give her any eye contact as she will not get the message it time to sleep she will stop eventually and settle back to sleep on her own if she wakes because she will not be getting the attention she is wanting good luck it will settle soon

Hi I am from Australia and had the same problem with my son if possible (and I know its hard) try feeding dinner 10 Min's later it a big time change for children then carry on as you would and only give her water when she wakes, It will take a few nights of crying but she will soon realise that she is only getting water and that's it. Also over here the pharmacy sells Hylander tables for children they are all natural and dissolve on the tong. They are for teething and restlessness. GOOD LUCK .

Difficult one this is. Obviously she is on solids etc, so perhaps you could try feeding her a little earlier then give her a nice bath and have some 'down time' before putting her into her cot.

As for milk what about giving her milk after her bath before you settle her down? Just offer her water if she wakes in the night, she wont want for milk if she knows you wont give her any and she'll soon get the message,

Good luck it's a difficult time when they are teething.

I suggest been a mother of 4 children, rub some bongela on her gums before sleep, and when she wakes for a feed just give her water after a couple of nights she'll get fed up of just getting water and she should settle into a routine. Hope this helps. Sweet dreams

Well i think she should be on more than just baby rice at her age, try her with something more filling !!

Also i think 7 sounds rather late to eat dinner - what time do you put her to bed, i always feed her at least 2 hours before bed.

I am a mother of 2 boys, and with my oldest i was night feeding until he was 9 months. we tried everything. the rice cereal at night, baths. everything and nothing worked. the only thing that did work was letting him cry it out, and i tell you, it is heartbreaking but it is really the only thing that works. I believe your chlid is waking up for comfort, not because of hunger. thats what i always thought too, just try letting your child cry it out at night, give it like 30-45 min. and before you know it, they'll be asleep. if she wakes up at night your looking at a shorter crying period because she is already really tired. hope this helps.

Usually, when children are waking through the night hungry it means that their brains are growing. They need the extra fat to help with brain growth. I had my children sleep with me, I breastfed and we all got more sleep. A friend of mine is bottle feeding, she puts her little one to bed in the crib then brings her to bed with her when she wakes up for a feed in the night. She has found that her daughter will sleep longer in the parents bed. Hope you find something to help, I really don't think that starving a child and leaving them alone in a dark room is a good, comforting idea!

All I did was give my son a bottle of his formula and then he went back to bed. Its tough. He's 2 1/2 years old and still wakes up in the midle of the night saying "MILK!!!"

Love it, love it!!!
