Carbonated water, also known as soda water, sparkling water, or seltzer water, is plain water into which carbon dioxide gas has been dissolved. The process of dissolving carbon dioxide gas is called carbonation. It results in the formation of carbonic acid (which has the chemical formula H2CO3).
In the past, soda water was produced in the home by "charging" a refillable seltzer bottle by filling it with water and then adding sodium bicarbonate. Club soda may be identical to plain carbonated water or it may contain a small amount of table salt, sodium citrate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium sulfate, or disodium phosphate, depending on the bottler. These additives are included to emulate the slightly salty taste of homemade soda water. To remove the salty taste they add a glucose a type of sugar. In labeling they use different words for sugar that some times you do not know what you are looking for..

Yes, most carbonated water will have some form or another of sugar, although some of the sugar may be natural, most of it is usually artificial. I'm not sure why you are avoiding sugar though, carbonation is something that you are much better off avoiding because it takes up oxygen space and prevents you from working as efficiently. So unless you are on a full-on diet, some sugars should be okay...

Carbonated mineral water doesn't contain any sugar (just added carbon dioxide). However, many carbonated DRINKS - including so-called "flavoured waters" - contain high levels of sugar.
Basically, if it tastes sweet and it doesn't say "diet" (ie contains aspartame or other artificial sweetener), there's sugar in it.

I fail to see why any body prefers carbonated water to ordinary potable water. Sugar in any form, is a white poison, which should be avoided at any cost.

If you're doubting your personal trainer I think you need to find a different one!
I actually have no idea, maybe it's the natural sugars in it, like grapes, they are fattening! Did you know that?!

Drink plain Volvic, it's the best out of all the bottled waters in my opinion.

Some do if they have fruit flavourings. It's the carbon you have to worry about. It leeches the calcium from your bones, not good.
