"Ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking the law" so goes the common phrase uttered by policeman when people claim they didn't know what the speed limit was to try to get out of a speeding ticket. The point is, a law is a law whether or not you possess knowledge of said law.
One would think that if its a sin to marry one's mother and one does so then the sin is committed regardless whether or not one knows that they have just entered matrimony with their matriarch.

J.T. - Leviticus 18:6-16 does show that it is sin to be in sexual relations with your relatives.
SIn is sin, whether you know it or not. SIn is to miss the mark, you can miss it even tho you dontknow where it is. The summation is accountability. We are all held accountable for our actions, knowing or unknowningly. Those that are unknowingly are brought to your understand thru the Holy spirit, which gives you the choice of owning up to your integrity, or try to justify leaving it to ignorance. Then it becomes known.

Sin is generally used to describe willful misbehavior.
Given the fact the bible has no prohibitions against marrying your relatives, it would appear that it is not a sin, willful or otherwise.
Kind of perverse idea, but not sinful.
Bolo, the passages you cite refer specifically to "uncovering their nakedness," and makes no mention of marriage at all.
Bible characters historically married their relatives; Lot impregnated his own daughters. Lot was considered such a "good man" that God sent angels to save him.
But, the Bible is contradictory, so it really doesn't matter what it says. It is a book of mythology.

It is classified a sin to keep you from commiting it. T o keep us purified and to help us follow guidelines set forth from God. If you dont know that it is your mother HOW would you be held responsible due to the fact you could NOT avoid doing this act and make another choice. Therefore, if the person does *NOT* know and makes this error, it is not a sin. IF they DO know then yes, it is a sin.

It can't be a sin without knowledge. If I were to find out if she were my mother, I would have killed myself.

Sin is a bunch of crap. It's a personal view of a man made God. If you love her does it even f***ing matter?
