I teach English... so I'm going to have to say that English is the richest language in the world! I does, after all, encompass many of the older languages as well as heralding the way as a leader in languages.

Isn't it interesting to think that the language of one of the smallest nations is spreading to become one of the most popular in the world?! Of course, the history of the English language (connected to the history of our country - British Empire and technological advancements etc) has meant that we have been able to shout the loudest and get heard by the most people. We are linguistically richer (because of the vastness and cultural diversity) and (if a language can be) financially the richer too (rightly or wrongly - that's a different debate!).

Easy answer would be the language of wealth. In which case ask Bill Gates.
My money speaks, unfortunately it usually says, 'Goodbye'.
English, having taken words from all places which were once in the Empire and historically being based on Germanic/Scandinavian languages with a French input after 1066, is certainly high on the cards, but Turkish has also been influenced by the Silk Road, the Ottoman Empire and Arabic (after the Turks adopted Islam) and they also, like the English-speaking peoples, have a confusing number of words for the same concept, but as in English, there are subtle differences.

Though English is a universal language, for me is not the richest language in the world. Each country has its own language which is called "national language" wherein each of us is very much mastered to it, so that is the richest language in the world. for no language is better than the other.

Sanskrit. It is not only the richest, but also the most scientific language. Sanskrit is also known to be the root language for a lot of modern languages. Further, it is perhaps the oldest language still in existence and lastly it has survived in its original form to this day.

Arabic and Chinese have been considered the richest languages but with the wide acceptance of English as the common language for technology, international cooperation and business, I guess, English have become the richest language.

When we talk about languages then we can only speak about Greek language only, as all Europe (Latin incuded) and USA use the Greek (Corinthian) alphabet. As for Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Egyptian, African, Turkish, etc, are symbols and "characters". The first proper language that first created a word for "meaning" (in Greek of course) it was Greece. Greece has 5,000,000 (million) words and 70,000,000 (million) word types according to the 1990 Guiness book of records. Romans stole many things from Greece and Alphabet was one of them. Later on all those things they stole they "owned" them and promoted as theirs and that was one of the biggest crimes that could have done to Greeks.

However all the languages I mentioned above are called "languages" and are respected as respected are the people who use them. All my comments are just for putting history straight and place truth exactly where it belongs.

PS: Not just Alphabet and building (bad copies) but Macaroni and Olive oil are amongst them.

with kind regards
D
