An editorial is an article in a newspaper or other periodical presenting the opinion of the publisher or editors. You see them in the newspaper all the time - just someone's opinion on some matter. If the story in the paper is dealing about facts, like a new bridge is being constructed, then it is just called an article. But if the writer is giving reasons why it should or should not be built, then it becomes an editorial.
