I bought a 3 piece suite last year on pay in 12 months. I have moved since I bought them so haven't received any letters from them. I was waiting for the first payment to go out of my account so I would have the contact details etc but they haven't taken the payment. Why would they not take the money?? What should I do ? We bought them from Harveys. I'm happy to pay but have they forgotton? I heard Harveys have been bought out ??

Hi Beccy

The first thing to do would be to contact Harveys and see who does their finance (or who did when you purchased your settee) they will have contact numbers, as I assume that they are still phoning through credit applications?

If not, the second thing to do would be to contact the credit reference agencies www.experian.co.uk. or www.equifax.co.uk. When you order a copy of your credit file (costs £2 - follow online prompts) it will show you who you have outstanding finance to and provide contact details.

I used to work for a company that provides retail finance and quite often the application form with the direct debit details on never makes it to the finance company - you can imagine the saturday girl doodling on it and thinking I wonder what I should do with this can't you!

So this may be why they haven't taken the first payment, and they may have written to you to tell you theres a problem, but if you've moved, you might not get the letter.

All I can say is you MUST sort this out - don't let them trace you first as they will charge for this, and missed payments will affect your credit file. Although it is REALLY tempting to not bother, you will end up with a debt twice what you borrowed with all the charges they will put on, so your settee will become a millstone round your neck.

Harveys customer service number (if it is still in operation) is 01708 527704 (9am - 5.30pm Monday to Friday)

Good luck

The reason why they haven't taken the money. It's because you broke th contract! You promissed to pay a suit in 12 months or i year. Right? Even if Harvey's bought them out, Harveys bought you'r contract!! OH! Yes, they havent forgotten. And you know the contact details!!

Google/Yahoo Harveys and find out who owns them now.
If it was bought on but now pay later interest free and you don't make payments they'll basck date the interst for the whole period. If you owe money a credit company would have taken on your debt, whatever happened to Harvey's and they can affect your credit rating.

You have eneterd into a credit agreement with a finance company not Harveys.

If you do not pay it could adversly effect your credit history.

Go to the store ( even if owned by new people) get the contact details of the credit department/compamy and talk to them.

YOu should really try to contact them before they put a 30 day no pay on your credit report.

i'd investigate about harvey's or find your receipt and call the store you purchased from. it'd be nice if they did overlook you suit, but it will probably come back to bite you in the a** later on.

even they "forgot" about you- it is still your responsibility to make your payment on time, contact them A.S.A.P, because if they report you to the credit agencies it will be to late to explain anything.
