Control Panel >Add and Remove Programs >uninstall any programs that you want to delete from there.
You can also go to Accessories > System Tools> Disk Clean up and Disk Fragmenter. These two procedures scan your drive and free up unnecessary fragmented files and temporary files that are not needed anymore.

In "Windows" (in the "Disk Cleanup" program) there must be an option to delete the backup files for uninstalling "Windows". Those files are saved just in case you will ever want to go back to the previous operating system you had. So, if you're decided to keep the OS you have now, you can use that option to delete the old operating system from your hard drive.
Beside of this, you can delete any file you don't need any more (documents, pictures, music, movies etc.).

Do not delete any files on the root directory of c:\ or any files that you did not create.
1. Empty the Recycle Bin on an ongoing basis.
2. Clear all browser caches and history files.
3. Uninstall any programs that you not use - Add/Remove Programs.
4. If you created files, go through them and delete them - then empty recycle bin.
5. Upload files that you want but don't currently use to CD or DVD's.
DO NOT FORMAT C:\ you will lose all files!
