This is so weird because I had the same situation years ago with my dog and a neighbor's cat. They got along famously and he would often eat her cat food. It got so bad that he did not want to eat his own. My vet suggested I mix his food with the cat food....did not work; I kept him inside barring him form eating with the cat...did not work. Then finally I hit on an idea....I invited the cat to our house to eat with him. The cat began eating his dog food. Well that did it! He did not mind being the guest but wanted no part of being the host. His cat-food eating was over and they just played and went to their sparate homes at mealtime. Of course you have to do what work for your dogs temperment and many times it will work itself out. Good luck! :)

Actually cat food is fine for the dog. Whatever made you think it wasn't? If your dog prefers the cat food then feed it cat food. Just make sure that you give her some mixer biscuit or small bite mixer mixed in with the food to ensure that she doesn't start losing her teeth at a young age like a lot of Yorkies do. I have known 3 year old yorkies with no teeth because the owners thought they were too dainty to chew anything hard.

The first thing to do is not to put the cat food where your dog can get to it. I have learned to feed my cats on the counter top. If this isn't to your liking then pick up the cat food after she is finished with it so the dog can't get to it. Your dog will not starve himself and if there is nothing but dog food to eat he will eventually eat it. I have seen dogs that would go a week without food when they were being trained to eat only dog food. You might try mixing a little cat food in with the dog food at first to get him to try it and then put in less and less cat food till not at all. Dogs like the cat food because it is all protein as cats cannot process grains in their digestive systems so that is why dogs like it so much.

Cat food is to rich for dogs evidently but why not try just sprinkling a tiny bit of it over the top or in with her dog food.
If that does not work it may be a jealousy thing so you may have to be a bit cleverer and pick the cat bowl up after the cat has finnished and put the dog food in it quickley and put it down in the same place as the cat food.

Our King charles was the same, in the end for a while we fed her on fresh food, or the frozen food you can buy at the larger pet shops. Although it is supposed to be for working dogs, she thrived on it. We watched how much we put in her bowl, and gave her biscuits to suppliment. After six months she turned her nose up at that and we went on to dry food, bakers do a good complete where it is all meaty chunks, or hi-life. Now Honey will eat any-thing you put in front of her. Just dont fall into the habbit of feeding her under the table, or letting the kids do the same. If a dog knows it can get food from other than its bowl, it is never gonna go to the bowl. My cat likes to eat the dogs food at times, i dont think it is anything to worry about to much, just dont stress out, your dog can feel your vibes, and will follow up on it.

Try the smallest kibble of Solid Gold dog food..available at most local pet supplies..It is fish based, and will taste more like cat food..
She may prefer the canned, or put in the food processor to make it tiny pieces.
We were raising Persian cats, in a houseful of dogs. We put the cat food up in a cat tree..
Note to above: Cat food creates too much uric acid for dogs, so is only safe in small amounts, such as for treats..

Cat foodwill not harm your dog, but try it on different dog foods, introducing them slowly, a little bit as a time. you have a small dog it might find the cat food easier to eat.

put the cat food somewhere that the cat can eat it but out of the dogs reach. do not let the dog have it no matter what. keep only dog food in the dogs reach. she will get hungry and eat her own food. i had to do that with my pug skittles.

First off, don't let her eat the cat food.
Second, if a dog is hungry enough, they will eat. Put down the dog food for 30 - 40 mins, if your dog doesnt eat.,..pick it up. If your dog doesn't eat the next following days...time to go to the vet and get that checked out.
