Yes, it's real. I have it sometimes myself. I think it's a recent current life experience that didn't go the way it should the first time so it's a re-do.

I have experienced it myself dozens of times. I once read the following explanation: The phenomenon occurs when the brain tricks itself into thinking that what is happening right now happened some time ago. It's as if the brain stops paying attention just for a moment and when it snaps out of it, it seems like the smell, sight, activity, conversation or whatever that is taking place is happening for the second time. The brain is actually "remembering" the same event twice, making it feel like it happened previously.

I've always thought the explanation made sense, especially in light of the fact that no other one explains it any better. Next time it happens, think about whether ot not you seemed a bit distracted by another thought.

Yeah it really is been an truly lengthy time period when you consider that I had dejavu yet after I used to get all of it the time it became loopy. i'd recognize each little thing that became going to happen for form of 10 seconds yet I not in any respect replaced it from happening. i became so intrigued that i wanted to work out if i extremely knew and that i did it really is the craziest component. truly presently I easily have had what they call lucid dreaming and that has been a higher secret than dejavu for me. Being completely unsleeping and conscious on your dream is like living life in yet another international. it really is so surreal and fantastic together. ahhhh lifes so mysterious

Could have sworn I've seen this question before...

Seriously though, at one time or another most of us have feelings of seeing something familiar, when it's supposed to be the first time. There is still much debate about this with answers as varied as you can imagine.

"...The term "déjà vu" (French for "already seen", also called paramnesia) describes the experience of feeling that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously. The term was created by a French psychic researcher, Émile Boirac (1851–1917) in his book L'Avenir des sciences psychiques (The Future of Psychic Sciences), which expanded upon an essay he wrote while an undergraduate French concentrator at the University of Chicago. The experience of déjà vu is usually accompanied by a compelling sense of familiarity, and also a sense of "eerieness," "strangeness," or "weirdness." The "previous" experience is most frequently attributed to a dream, although in some cases there is a firm sense that the experience "genuinely happened" in the past.

The experience of déjà vu seems to be very common; in formal studies 70% or more of the population report having experienced it at least once. References to the experience of déjà vu are also found in literature of the past, indicating it is not a new phenomenon. While it has been extremely difficult to invoke the déjà vu experience in laboratory settings, therefore making it a subject of few empirical studies, recently researchers have found ways to recreate this sensation using hypnosis.[1].."

"..Associative deja vu
The most common type of deja vu experienced by normal, healthy people is associative in nature. You see, hear, smell or otherwise experience something that stirs a feeling that you associate with something you've seen, heard, smelled or experienced before. Many researchers think that this type of déjà vu is a memory-based experience and assume that the memory centers of the brain are responsible for it.

Biological deja vu
There are also high occurrences of deja vu among people with temporal lobe epilepsy. Just before having a seizure they often experience a strong feeling of deja vu. This has given researchers a slightly more reliable way of studying deja vu, and they've been able to identify the areas of the brain where these types of deja vu signals originate. However, some researchers say that this type of deja vu is distinctly different from typical deja vu. The person experiencing it may truly believe they've been through the exact situation before, rather than getting a feeling that quickly passes...."

"..While about 60 percent of people say they have experienced déjà vu, the rates are highest among people between the ages of 15 and 25. The upper age varies among researchers, but most agree that deja vu experiences decrease with age. There have also been higher reported occurrences among those with higher incomes, those who tend to travel more and those with higher education levels. Active imaginations and the ability to recall dreams has also been a commonality among people who report deja vu experiences..."

"..Below are names for some of the many ways in which the deja experience may manifest:
deja entendu - already heard
deja eprouve - already experienced
deja fait - already done
deja pense - already thought
deja raconte - already recounted
deja senti - already felt, smelt
deja su - already known (intellectually)
deja trouve - already found (met)
déjà vécu - already lived
deja voulu - already desired
Neppe (in conjunction with Prof. B. G. Rogers, Professor of French, University of the Witwatersrand) in 1981 suggested the following additional terms:
deja arrive - already happened
deja connu - already known (personal knowing)
deja dit - already said/spoken (content of speech)
deja goute - already tasted
deja lu - already read
deja parle - already spoken (act of speech)
deja pressenti - already sensed
deja rencontre - already met
deja reve - already dreamt
deja visite - already visited
Deja rencontre appears preferable to deja trouve for the already met experience because it specifically relates to interpersonal situations..."
