Threats of eternal burning, if you don't listen to church officials, and heaven if you do. How else would they get members? This is like telling a kid if he doesn't eat his brussel sprouts, they will grow into a monster that will eat him. The church controls people through fear of a made up place. The people that buy this bs pass it down to their kids leading to paranoia, trust issues, etc, but worst of all, a continuing fear of fictional places. If some cult went around telling their kids that an 8' long magic sewer rat will eat them for misbehaving, the government would arrest them, and child support would take the kids. The only reason christians can do this is because christians hold allot of votes. Anything is legal, and moral if it will get the local politician reelected.

Focusing on 'Hell' would be a form of emotional abuse - yes. But to keep a child ignorant of consequences would be an even bigger form of abuse. The biggest difference between a Christian like ME and an Atheist like YOU - is that I would tell a child [or any other person - for that matter] what I BELIEVE to be the truth. Whereas you [and your Atheist pals] would tell a child [or any other person] what you KNOW to be the truth. There is a difference between 'believing' something is true and being convinced that you 'KNOW' something is true. But most Atheists I've ever talked to don't understand that at all. I can't help but ask... why are you so SURE that you're right?! Have a great day. Craig!! :o)

Yes! It's mental abuse. No different than a parent telling a child if he doesn't behave, he'll get thrown in the furnace.
Sickening.

Hey, look at all the adults that are scared of hell!
Where do you think they learned it from?
I feel very sorry for these people, it must be awful to fear a God that you supposedly love.
Sounds like an almighty abusive relationship to me.

I personally think it is wrong, but I am not Christian. There was a woman on earlier who wanted to know how to convince her 10 year old to believe in hell because the child refused to buy it. I found it a bit disturbing.

A made up hell, im sure the one hell is scary enough if you dont beleive in God... I would rather be with God beleiving that he is able to save, but children these days should be concerned that they must beleive also..

It's like saying to a child everynight when he goes to sleep that there's a monster under his bed. And to top it off, you tell the child that the monster knows your thoughts and will punish you for thinking badly about it. I mean come on! Of course the kid will hate the monster. It is scaring the living **** out of him hiding under the bed like that!

How do you know hell is made up? Have you been to the other side of death. If not, then you don't know what's on the other side of death, do you.
I'll tell you what child abuse is. Child abuse is what they are teaching in these secular humanist public schools. Everything they teach goes through a giant filter that is called naturalism. Naturalism just redefines the old law of cause and effect. The law of cause and effect(which Einstein said was the most reliable of all physical laws) says that for every effect there must be a cause. Naturalism redefines that law to read "for every effect there must be a NATURAL cause". Just one word has been changed but it makes a universe of difference. If there is no God and nothing else out there but matter, energy and molecules in motion, then who could argue that "for every effect there must be a NATURAL cause". What other kind of cause could there be. But to say that you must have absolute proof that there is no God. If you just allow for the possibility of a God then you can't say "for every effect there must be a NATURAL cause" because if there is a God there could be a SUPERNATURAL cause. Of course, to say there is no God is called Atheism. Naturalism is based upon atheism. That's what they are teaching in our schools today........a veiled form of atheism.
If there is no God, then the universe came from nothing(the big bang) and over billions of years expanded into the universe we know. Life came from dead chemicals and evolved from one cell to man. The universe has been here for 15 billion years before any child came on to this earth. Fifty years before he arrived, no one knew he was coming. He lives his 70 years on this earth in a life that is filled with problems and when the problems come there is no God to turn to because there is nothing out there but matter and molecules in motion. Your whole life is lived by chance. Then you eventually die and go into the grave and the worms eat you and that's it.There's no incentive to live a good life because there's no afterlife. I mean, It's not as if Mother Theresa is sitting up on a cloud and looking down on Hitler and saying "you should've been more like me". You're gone, conscience and all. If there is no God there is no right and wrong because Moral laws have to come from some kind of an ultimate source. If they come from you or me, they're just our opinion. There's no reason to live a good life. About 100 years after you're dead no one will even know you ever existed. Then the universe goes on for another 15 billion years and then dies a heat death. Do you see any meaning in all that? Under that definition, I don't see any difference between you and a cockroach. The famous judge Oliver Wendel Holmes (who was an atheist) once said "I see no difference between a man, a cockroach and a rock". No wonder there are 30 million people in this nation who are being clinically treated for depression, the suicide rate is in the stratisphere and the crime and murder rate is in another dimension. Also, drugs and alcohol abuse are rampant. People just want to somehow dull their senses so they don't have to think about their meaningless existence.
There's no logical reason to believe atheism. Atheism is inconsistent with the facts that we see. The whole universe is filled with design. The physical laws of the universe are perfectly designed. Life is perfectly designed. Life does not come from dead chemicals even after billions of years no more than a small snail can come from the same sized nail just by laying it on the floor and seeing if it will come alive after billions of years. Wherever you find design you must have a designer. That's just logical and common sense. Who could design a universe. You can call that entity anything you want. Call it a ghost if you want. I call it God. Only a God could design a universe like ours.
To teach a little child that there is no God and that life is so meaningless when, In fact, the evidence shows otherwise is truly CHILD ABUSE.

Of course it is. It is a form of mental abuse... but of course since it is the church doing this, nothing will happen.
Kind of like how they just move the priests who diddle little boys from one parish to another instead of handing them over to the cops...
Yeah, the church is a GREAT place to put your faith in. Good plan guys.
