i sold a 1966 olds 98' to a close friend of mine to help him out. i sold the car for 600.00 dollars and told him he can pay me in payments. i told him i would sign the title over when he payed me the last payment. i lost touch with him, and later found out he sold the car to someone else for 700.00 dollars. i still have the title but no car. i have no idea where the car is, and i have no idea what to do now. the police said i need to take him to small claims court to get the money he owes me, but can't find him. much help is needed please... thanks

Report the car stolen.

Another one to add to the "why we don't do business with friends" file. IT WAS 600.00!! You couldn't close a cash deal on that? Never mind what he did with it after you gave it to him (and yes you gave it to him) or how much he sold if for again that's not the issue. How are these guys getting insurance if they don't have the title, let me guess, they are driving around uninsured. And you know what, if they do serious damage while driving this thing guess who's still on title? Anyway, I digress, I just get so ticked when you guys do something like this and then say I need help. So what do you want help with, getting your lousy 600 bucks or getting your name off title so if some one is killed you're not the sap they come looking for?

Report the car stolen to the police and Motor Vehicle Department. Ask the MVD to notify you of any attempts to register the car in another persons name. This guy could have fabricated a duplicate title or made up a bill of sale and put your name on it (without your knowledge).

I agree with the police that you will have to take him to court. But you could also track him down and try to take your car back before it it becomes totally worthless.

Use the Internet to locate the guy, talk to his friends, family, last employer, boyfriends/girlfriends etc. There are several search engines on the net, or even a private investigator.

Close friend? You've just spent $600 on learning that you have a rather goofy idea of the word friend means.

you can call the car in stolen, but thats a little drastic but they will find it and then you can just not press charges

file a stolen car report. I know you'd hate to do that to your friend, but he ripped you off.
