Yes, if you get the right doctor. If you get one who wants to delve into your psyche or hypnotize you or something, you're wasting time and LOTS of money. What you need is called behavioral therapy. It doesn't concern itself with your mind, only with the behavior of being afraid of spiders. You need to get used to the thing you fear. They don't have to lock you in a glass box full of spiders and wait for you to quit shaking. You can gradually be introduced to things that bother you slightly. When you get used to one annoying thing, they raise the bar a notch, so to speak. Step by step you confront things and get used to them. It's possible to get too used to dangerous things. For instance a construction worker may slowly lose his fear of heights, and then fall to his death. What you need is a healthy fear of spiders.

A good Therapist who specialises in phobias can help you, but it will take time. A GP can't help you because they deal with the medical side of people.
Psychiatrists deal with mental illnesses and psychologists do to so I recommend a therapist.
But only you can really change the way you feel about spiders, the therapist will only be there to talk, give you support and the tools to succeed in what you want to achieve.
Good Luck, hope you find the right answer that you need.

As with any mental disorder and / or phobia, there are ways of overcoming them. Sometimes it is a lengthy round of sessions, medication, or both. Arachnophobia is a very common phobia and has indeed been treated clinically.

Treatment usually involves having the patient slowly work towards handling spiders of different varieties, leading up to tarantulas. (Which, in my opinion is silly. I would much rather hold a tarantula than one of those bright white long legged freaky things that hop on my face from the basement ceiling)...

Check with your local Mental Health department for references.

Good luck!

It's natural to be afraid of spiders. We evolved to be afraid of things that can harm us.

Can spiders help with my fear of doctors?

Yes, of course.
Depends on the doctor, of course.
A psy-something (psychologist, psychiatrist, etc), not a general physician.
But basically, only YOU can solve your fear of anything.
A doctor will only give you tools to help, but as long as you don't take the tools within your mind, it won't work.
You have to be willing and have confidence.
In fact, I could help.
:)
The answrer is within you.

When I was small I too had the fear of spiders.
But now I don't.
When ever I see one I just take long mopper and kill it.
Why don't you do the same?

Try pretending that you have an alliance with the Arachnids. Respect them, do not kill them in your home, rather catch and release them. They will sense your goodwill and leave you alone, perhaps even protect you. They are your friends now, right?

Not completely. Have you seen how many types of spiders there are.

Just keep wearing shoes.

Yes. There's a very effective treatment for phobias that unforunately, I don't remember what it's called, but talk to a psycologist, and they'll probably be able to refer you to someone who does that particular kind of therapy.

This is a problem that can be fixed quickly, if you can find a good behavioural therapist.
