I have oil on canvases that could be put into a digital format and used by periodicals or companies as illustrations. Has anyone ever done this?

There are two major ways to market your paintings. One is to connect with an art studio through its director and hope that they like your paintings well enough to put them on display. You can either do this by yourself or with the help of an agent. Some colleges also have art studios where students can display and sell their work. The other option is to sell the paintings yourself in an art show. If you are willing to travel and further educate yourself, developing your style, you have a much better chance. I am not an artist myself, but I hung around a lot of aspiring artists in college and it seems its best to start in the smaller markets and gain recognition step by step. Good luck.

Look up a local ad agency and talk to the art department chief. Ask him/her to lunch and pick up the tab. He/she can guide you as to where you can search based on his critique of your work.
