The 'fist' measurement is generally used as a guide for protiens. The main consideration here, is that food is fuel. And a person needs to have the right quantities and balance to be healthy.
Another easy to remember guildeling is that your main protien serving should be about the size (volume) of a deck of cards.
What your stomache and brain tell you is most likely not what you need. The only real way to is research and measure your meals. Your stomache is simply telling you based on the volume of food it is used to getting... it adapts to your eating habits. Your brain is telling you based on needs and addictiions.
Now I know people are going to say... "I'm not addicted to foods". Well if that's what you think, stop eating all fast foods for a year, or all sodas and Consentrated fruit drinks... can't do it? It's too hard?? Thats an addiction.

Not your fist - the palm of your hand! One measure for protein - meat, fish etc, one measure for carbs - pasta, potatoes etc, and two portions for veg/salad.
Your fats (dressings etc) are made of mainly fats in the form of oils/mayonnaise etc so keep to an absolute minimum, or do without.

That sounds right to me. But for example potato's contain no fat at all so if somebody wants a larger portion of things that contain no fat then that should be ok also !!!
