My mom just got like metal upper partials and she is going on a airplane for the first time and is worried she will have to take her teeth out or have her mouth examined(shes self conscious about them). Will she even beep through the metal detectors, or what should she know about the airport security.

I really doubt that she will set anything off, as I know some people that have a huge amount of dental work, and they have no problems. One of the people I know has 6 stainless steel crowns, and those don't set off the alarms.

I used to do a job where I had to go through airport security on a regular basis, and I have also done my share of traveling. Please tell your mother that I have never seen a person have to have their mouth examined out in the open. What I have seen is people being asked to go through the metal detector twice, and then being taken to a separate screening area. If she is taken to a separate screening area, they will usually go over her body with a wand, and she will be able to talk discreetly with the security person, and explain about her dental work. They will not be unkind, as I am sure they hear all sorts of information like that all the time. If they want to have her take her partial out, which I absolutely cannot imagine, she can simply be asked to be taken to a private screening room.

I actually had to take my pants down once when I was at the airport for work. I was wearing Levi's 501s, and the combination of metal button fly and lots of rivets caused a problem. The ladies who screened me were very nice, and simply took me into a private room. I dropped my jeans, they scanned them with a wand and verified that was the problem, and I was on my way in about 3 minutes. It really was just funny, not upsetting in the least.

Tell your mom to try not to worry too much. Tell her to just remember that if there should be a problem, she can ask to be screened in a private area so that other people don't see it. The security screeners are in the business of keeping people safe, not trying to humiliate them.

Chances are no...she will not make the metal detectors go off, but she can talk to her dentist about getting a letter that says that she has these partials.

Dental apparatus are not usually made of materials that are highly magnetic. So there is less likely that it will set of any detector.
