Proper storage of cooked meat is absolutely ESSENTIAL to keep it safe. Keeping chicken at an in-between temperature, neither hot nor cold, for a while will make it a breeding ground for bacteria that can make you sick. If you left it sit a couple of hours before it went into the fridge, that could make you sick.
From a site about safe food handling:
"An important food safety rule to remember is to keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold. Most disease-causing bacteria are killed at temperatures above 140°F. Bacteria are not killed at temperatures below 40°F., but low temperatures slow their growth. So adjust your refrigerator to keep the temperature no higher than 40°F.
Cook foods completely in one step. Partial cooking may allow surviving bacteria to grow. Chicken should always be cooked well done. However, thorough cooking cannot make up for improper food handling because some harmful bacteria release toxins (poisons) that are not destroyed by heat.
Most foods can safely remain at temperatures between 40°F. and 140°F. for no more than 2 hours, including serving time and time cooling in the refrigerator. Foods kept in a chafing dish that is hotter than 140°F. can be held for about 4 hours. To chill cooked foods as quickly as possible, place them in a covered shallow pan or container in the refrigerator or freezer immediately after the meal is finished. Use the leftovers within 2 to 4 days. Reheat leftovers to at least 165°F."

Yes! You have to cook it before eating it. It contains numerous bateria that can cause digestion problems, and food poisoning. So long as it is kept in the fridge and you eat it straight away (cooked mind you, not raw) after taking it from the fridge, you should be fine. So long as it has not been in there for a week without been stored in cling wrap or a sealed container.

If it isn't cooked...why of course! But if it was fully cooked to at least 180 degrees if it is whole, it should be great as leftovers. See many cooked chicken products that are precooked like roasted chicken and those other sliced cooked chicken products including chicken hot dogs or whatever. If the chicken wasn't cooked to a degree that kills all of the bad bacteria or whatnot, it might still harbor bad things like salmonella in its blood. Eat all chicken within a couple of days to keep from getting ill in the future. Chicken isn't very scary, I've roasted them to the correct temperature and eaten it up to four days later with no ill effects.

you can get sick by eating anything undercooked or raw, because of parasites and bacteria growing in the food when it isn't frozen or above 60 degrees.
