At rest, about 2 calories a minute, which means 120 per hour, which for the day totals 2880 calories.

Exercise increases caloric burn. Walking burns 5 calories a minute, or 300 per hour. If you kept that up for 12 hours, you'd burn a pound of fat (3500 calories)

The amount of calories your body needs to carry out these bodily functions and day to day activities depends on several factors and varies from person to person. Your weight, height, age, gender, etc., all play a role. The amount of muscle and your overall health (e.g., pregnancy, illness, nursing, etc.) also help determine the number of calories your body burns. (Of course, including additional activity in your day will increase the number of calories burned as well.)

It depends on your metabolism, how much physical activity you do,if you are a male or female, and also how much muscle you have. More muscle equals more calories burned, even if you aren't moving. It's around 1800-2200 kcal for a woman and 2200-2600 for a man (depending on the factors above).
