My minature schnauzer needs all of my attention all the time which he usually gets. He always sleeps with me or on me and I can't get him to even think about his own bed. No matter what I do he follows me every where...Seriously he has not EVER left my side and I can't get him to sleep in his own bed. I've tried closing the door and he just stays up all night howling and crying and scratching the door and he will not stop.

Well, since you have already let him sleep in your bed, its gonna be tough to make him stop now. You are going to have to be stern and stick to your guns. Shut the door and put his bed right outside the door as close to the door as possible and when he starts scratching and crying say NO HUSH a few times in a loud voice and then you will just have to stand it until he stops. He will stop eventually. Don't give in and let him in or you will have him in your bed forever. This is another reason why dogs should be crate trained. It makes them feel secure to have their own place to go to and they will go in when you say Kennel and be perfectly happy. Some people think it is cruel, but it actually makes for a healthy well adjusted pet. You can still crate train your dog, but it works better when started as a puppy. Good luck and don't give in.

You will just have to persevere with leaving him in his own bed. You should buy a chain and chain him to the bed at night so the bed will be the best option to sleep on. Once he realizes that you are not going to break and go and cuddle him and invite him back into your big soft warm bed he will get used of it. Maybe putting his bed in the garage or somewhere like that away from the other bedrooms will deafen his crying, how about the laundry? My friend and her fiance let their staffy puppy sleep in bed with them too. Eventually there was hair all through it and it was too gross to continue so they just put her bed outside under the verandah and she settled in fine. She even had showers with them and mustve thought she was a pretty important human. Once she learned that she was a puppy and the people were the boss she conceded defeat. Buy a little soft toy for him to lie with. Good luck

Get one of the kennel cages that you taake with you on trips and teach your dog to go into it every night to sleep. It works plus it keeps your dog from scratching on doors. If it whines....put the dog in the kennel in a room away from yours where the noise wont bother ya.

sit or lay near his bed one night. make sure its extra- comfy. then wait for him to sleep in his bed. when you are sure he is sleeping deeply, move to your own bed. you may want to repeat this exercise for a few nights if he doesnt take to it immediatly. he should eventually realise its not that bad to sleep alone and shouldn't bother you ever again! (although dogs do wimp out during thunderstorms!!!)

Put his bed in your room. Every time he jumps on YOUR bed, put him down. It sounds like you're close with your dog, so I'm sure he can tell when your mad, let him know your mad...My dog gets upset when i yell, that's how i let her know I'm pissed. Back it up with positive reinforcement when he does stay down...giving him a snack when he lays in his bed and so forth.
