I'm graduating college this December and I want to join the Marine Corps but I'm a little worried about taking the ASVAB test. Does anyone know what's considered a good ASVAB score for a Marine Officer? If you have a link for me to look at, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks, in advance!

Is the scale 1-100? Or is it scaled differently?

"helo pilot": What the hell does "wooosssess" mean anyway? I'll take it as you meant it as an insult. Have you taken a look at my avatar? Incase you haven't noticed I'm a female and last time I checked, women are not allowed in combat positions, if in fact that is what you consider "not-wooosssess". Incase you have forgotten "every Marine is a rifleman". I don't think you or anyone else can say that any job in the Marine Corps (or the military in general, for that matter) is "wooosssess" (whatever the hell that means). Truth is, we're all fair game out there and every Marine, no matter what their MOS, plays a role in accomplishing the mission and is important. After all support makes up the majority of the military in general, so are you telling me they're all "wooosssess"? By the way, last time I checked Logistics officers are all over Iraq and are one of the busiest MOS's in the Marine Corps right now. You got a lot nerve buddy.

"darkangel" Hi! I actually just got off the phone with a friend and found out that officers only have to take the ASVAB if they got a low score on their SATs, so I'm in the clear. I was waiting for a call back from my OSO, but I got the answer before he could call me back. Thanks though :o)

It sounds like you've already found your answer, but I'll chip in, anyway. The overall ASVAB score is on a 1-99 scale, but the ASVAB also scores specific areas of skill or knowledge, to test your aptitude and in doing so assist them in finding what jobs you might be good at. For example, having a high GT score is a must if you wish to be an officer, warrant officer, or otherwise qualify for a job or position that would entail meticulous work with expensive equipment, sensitive information, or even involve a lot of writing. The other sections test your strengths in other areas. I got a 99 on my overall ASVAB score, and was given everything I asked for--Europe, MI, etc. I should think that you'd have quite a lot less choice over which specific job/branch, or station, you'd be selected for, being an officer and especially being a Marine officer... but it seems your SAT scores have saved you from having to bother with the ASVAB anyway. Still, at times it's useful to have taken it, since the ASVAB is the measure by which the military judges you in terms of additional schooling and training, some of the time. Hope this has helped, in addition to all the other information everyone else has provided :)

A "basic good" score is about 50, I got a 69 on mine... You can get a crappy job with at least a 30 and you might have to get a waiver if you want to do anything specific. And officers don't take ASVAB, its only for enlisted. You have to have a batchelors degree to be an officer in the Armed Forces, attend officer school, etc.

A qualifing AFQT ( Armed Forces Quailifing Test) score of 32 is required, which is concidered CAT 3. You can get in with a lower score, but it will more than likely take a waiver to enlist. Anything over a 50 is good, anything over a 75 is really good. I am really not the brightest crayon in the box and when I took the ASVAB to get in I cut a AFQT of 74 with a GT of 112. Qualified me for almost anything in the Army.

If you have a degree, you shouldn't get any less than 80. It's on a scale of 99. The Marine corps does not care what branch you want to do, especially if you're an officer. They will decide that for you.

Depends on what MOS you will be going for. Each MOS has different requirements as far as minimum score on the ASVAB. If you are graduating college, your ASVAB score should be in the high 90s, mine straight out of high school was 92.

it depends on the service. the Army usually will let you choose your MOS with a score higher that 70, but only an MOS that isn't full-strength, i got a 93 right out of junior year of high school and they offered MI or a "health care specialist", which i later found out translates to "combat medic" later meaning AIT.

if you can spell your name the Army will take you... ha ha But seriously i scored a 79 and the airforce was practicly knocking down my door to be an F-15 electronics specialist but instead i opted to be an B-1B bomber crew cheif. but if i remember right the best score you can get is a 99 out of 100

Officers do not take the ASVAB, but a good score is anything over 90, its a pretty easy test.
