I recently asked my physical therapist this. He said not really. If you do it excessively, then you get spaces between the joint. this may cause some arthritis later because of increased contact.

Is Cracking Bones Bad

Not necessarily. There is fluid behind the caps (which you crack) of bones. The fluid cracks as it separates then moves back. Sometimes the fluid travels, and is moved as waste, and removed. Without that fluid is what causes arthritis, the fluid kept the bones from pressuring against each other. Try not to just in case, arthritis maybe be easily sidelined, but it leaves your fingers mishapped and sore. Hope this helped.

I don't believe it's bad in any way..the reason you feel the need to crack it's because the cartilage is lacking the fluid so by cracking you are actually stimulating the fluid intake..so go ahead just don't do it in front of people who get the hibby jibbies from it..If cracking bones was bad how do you think chiropractors make a living..crack away!

No, it's good to do. the pop happens because of the release of small bubbles of trapped gas. Cracking joints helps lubricate them and keep the small muscles around them strong and flexible, since they do not usually get much exercise except as part of the movement of larger muscles. It's like doing minor chiropractic work on your own body.

I heard something about gasses building up in you knuckles and creating pressure that is relieved by cracking. Hadn't heard anything about the back like that. Your spine is very delicate. They say that you shouldn't mess with it or you can become paralyzed.

well, you're not actually "cracking you bones". if you were, that would be bad. what you're speaking of is not bad, and no it won't give you arthritis. that's an old wives tale.
