I just brought home a new puppy and she is 2 months old. I also have a 4 year old female dog. Whenever my older dog goes to parks/is walked, she is weary of other dogs and barks from a distance; but when she nears them, she is scared.
When I brought the puppy home, my other dog sniffed her a bit and was actually scared of her. She is avoiding her now and once in a while comes near. I'm afraid she'll get depressed over the fact we have a new puppy. She has moped around all day by herself. :(

She will get used to it, and it might actually help her overcome fear of other dogs..don't push a relationship on them, but give her at least as much attention as you do the puppy..
Don't allow the puppy to pester her..she may bite out of fear..
Give them each toys, and let her see that you don't allow the pup to steal hers..This keeps YOU as the boss, so she won't feel she has to take over, and discipline the pup herself.

Always feed the older dog first, and make the pup leave her food alone..
I think all of you will do fine..

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!
I brought home a 4 week old jack russell, and my pitbull acts/and acted just like that. I was afraid to leave them alone because the pit was so afraid of the little puppy, i didn't want him to get scared and bite her! I found that putting her in a pin/or a kennel helped. They got to be around eachother without the pup jumping all over the older dog. For the first 2-3 weeks, I supervised them playing together, just like you would your children. When I wasn't home, I kept them seperated. Also, make sure to feed them seperate at first and don't let them share toys yet. You want to see each dogs temperment toward eachother first.Be patient, it will take time. Good luck!

Im sure they will be fine and get along once they have made friends. I think it is cute how she is scared of her. When we got my new labrador puppy we thought our blue healer would be mean to her and beat her up but she really liked her and took care of her. Many people probably get unexpected reactions from their dogs when they bring a new puppy home.

They will be best friends in no time. We have had older dogs and new puppies, it won't take long for them to adjust.
