Surname Origin?

Does anyone know what country the surname Minchew originated from? The reason I ask is because this surname is within my family tree...I was just curious. Nobody in my family seems to know where it came from. Some think it's French, but it doesn't sound like a French name to me.

It could be french, I would imagine that the spelling and the pronounciation have changed through the years. Many names changed when immigrants came into the US, because the agents couldn't pronounce them or spell them.
