I never noticed with females, but my expierence with male cats is that they seem to mellow out and they usually won't spray to mark their territory. I've also heard that male cats will get bigger if you get them fixed.

Hi Trip, Having a cat or dog fixed is the best thing you can do for your pets.I would say,the males seem to change some what. It's like a human male,if you lose your nuts you lose your manhood.I had females fixed in dogs and cats, and male dogs and cats. The girls lay around all day and enjoys life.I had 1 male cat that totally when nuts when i pick him up from the vet.He was like a cat i never seem before. He was screaming like a cat that wanted to kill someone. When i got home and try to let him out of the carrier, he try to bite me and he try to dig is crawls into me.He made up his mind that i was no longer his master. Some how he got out of the house, and we never seem him again.MY 2 daughters were so upset about smokey running away,i just felt sick to my stomach.Because of this,i will never have a cat for a pet, ever again. But i think it changes the male more than the females.
Clowmy.

It can change their behaviour but not always. We got one cat desexed hoping it would...the cat was ADHD Im sure and was driving us insane, it was crazy, even looked insane in it's eyes. Unfortunately desexing did not change it one but and infact eventually it had to be put down because of aggression. Im quite sure it had a mental illness but this is very hard to treat in animals and it was becoming dangerous for the children in the street. But I have heard that desexing can settle animals who are a bit crazy etc...and makes them more mature sometimes. We use to have a neighbours cat who loved us and came in to visit and have a cuddle and even sleep on my bed. Once it was desexed it ignored me totally and would not come to play anymore!

This is totally normal. When cats get fixed it definitely calms them down and makes them happier because they lose the urge to roam/find a mate. Fixing your cats can also lengthen their life span.

No it is not weird..doesn't happen all the time...but most animals change their behavior some after being fixed...it is almost always for the better...they are usually calmer and friendler.
