Hi Pardner ,, i have the right place for you...
the Hotel Fiamma,,, on Via Gaeta 61,,, about 2 blocks from the central train station, it is nice and big rooms,,,

Also, at the end of the street of the hotel,, about 3 blocks more.. there on the right is a small resturantre,, All Hostaria,,,, the hotel will give you a card and you get a discount,,,,
The food is Wonderful !!!! go early it fills up quickly......no kidding... tell the nice plump lady that runs it hello for me,,,,
Watch out for pickpockets in Rome and big Cities,,,, they are good ,, no matter where you are !!!!

We stayed in the Grand Hotel Plaza in Rome..it is super central..walking distance to everything.. http://www.hotel-rates.com/italy/rome/grand-hotel-plaza.html
But really expensive over New Years. As will be most of the big hotels..
