Check out the Better Business Bureau for the state of Hawaii. Also, contact the Association of Bridal Consultants. If this person is affiliated with them they will have information on them. If you're still not sure about this particular wedding planner, check out the Association's website for wedding planners in Hawaii. Their website is:

I think the best way to locate a vendor is word of mouth. When I was planning my wedding, I relied heavily on word of mouth from recent newlyweds and others that were planning their wedding. The discussion boards were also a great way to share anxieties and to find other girls to talk about wedding planning with so as not to bore the rest of my friends and family to death. ;) There's a discussion board on the knot specifically dedicated to Hawaii weddings. I'd start by asking the girls that are there (who are marvelously helpful) for suggestions on wedding planners. After you find the top three most popular wedding planners, then visit their websites, think of a list of questions to ask them if you want to learn more about their credentials, call them, check up on their records on the BBB, and ask for references. Actually do call or email at least two or three previous brides that they've worked for to see how they felt about the job they've done, whether they would hire the person again after they saw how the wedding actually went, etc. etc. Then you can make a more informed decision.
Anyway, here's the link to the knot:

The wedding channel discussion board also has a section for brides planning Hawaii weddings. You can also search under "destination weddings", there may be some useful information there.
Good luck - and congratulations!

Try weddingchannel.com. It has a list of reputable vendors in every state. Otherwise, if you plan to have the wedding at a hotel, the events planner at the hotel will be able to assist you and refer some reputable local vendors that he/she has worked with before.
