Being a religious catergory, I think it's safe to ask about Satanism. Is it a religion? Does Satan see himself as a god or want to be god? Do you pray to him? Have black masses? Are you open with your satanism to others? Will you go to hell because you worship Satan or because you have rejected God? If you go to hell, will Satan be nice to you or will he make you suffer forever? Are you evil? Do you try to do the wrong things all the time or desire others to suffer? Do you try to convert others?

Wow, quite a list of questions! Yes. I am a LaVeyan Satanist.. We are Atheistic/Agnostic. We don't worship or even believe in a devil/god/heaven/hell. We use the mythological "Satan" as a symbol for Wisdom and Human Nature. It's not a religion. It's Hedonism mixed with a carnival. We worship ourselves and Nature. We also have a bit in common with Wiccans. We observe and celebrate the Wheel of the Year

We don't pray as we don't actually believe in deities.
Yes we have masses, and they are nothing like you probably think they are.
Yes I'm very open about it.
I don't believe in a hell, so I won't be going there.
If I am evil or not is subject to other's opinions.
No I don't try to do the wrong things all the time. That's just moronic.
No I do not try to convert others..

Read this and tell me if it's really so "evil"

The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth

by Anton Szandor LaVey ©1967

[Spanish, Croation]

1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.

2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.

3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.

4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.

5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.

6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.

7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.

8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.

9. Do not harm little children.

10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.

11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

i am not a satanist, i have friends that are, and i have studied their beliefs.

Is it a religion? yes.

Does Satan see himself as a god or want to be god?

there is no god or satan. satan is a name given to the forces of nature and is used as a direct opposite to christianity.

Do you pray to him? there is nothing to pray to.

Have black masses?

some do and Anton lavey explained the ritual. but the ritual is simply because humans need ritual to feel like they are a part of somehting.

Are you open with your satanism to others? most are.

Will you go to hell because you worship Satan or because you have rejected God? hell is fictional, they are basically athiest.

If you go to hell, will Satan be nice to you or will he make you suffer forever? there is no hell or satan to do these things to them.

Are you evil? evil is a frame of mind. however some of the laws of satanism include.j

NEVER harm a Child.
Never kill anything when it is not for food to feed you and your family.
Never force anyone to do something that they do not wish to do.
(this includes rape, murder, torture. etc...)

Do you try to do the wrong things all the time or desire others to suffer? No they actually look at life as a time to enjoy and would wish everyone to enjoy their lives.

Do you try to convert others? no. that is against one of the 11 satanic laws that states that you should keep your mind and religion to yourself unless asked about it.

Not all Satanism is about worshipping Satan as the Christians see him/it. As most know, Satan is the fallen angel - Lucifer, and I know some Satanists who worship him in this form. I'm not particularly well versed in Satanism, but I do know a little.

I get lumped as being a Satanist all the time, as I am a Witch, but it doesn't bother me as much as it used to, even though Wicca and Satanism are two seperate things.

I am a satanist. It is a religion only in that it has a code of ethics and a somewhat organized philosophy. We do not believe in Satan. We do not pray to satan. We do not believe in any form of deity. In fact, the church of satan is ultimately a secular humanistic organization. Without god or satan, there is no heaven or hell. Most satanists desire to bring peace and happiness into the world while working to eliminate unnecessary conflict and pain. No one should convert to Satanism unless they want to, so evangelism is a non issue.

I think most of these questions were on my last job application. I'll answer them in order:
No and yes.
It isn't safe (wasn't phrased as a question, but one was implied)
No. It is an anti-religion.
Who could possibly know such a thing?
No.
Yes.
People who do it choose who to tell.
No.
See above.
Ah, here it is. Are you evil? Do you think that humans are evil? Do you think that a person would want to purposely be evil? I should have looked at your name so I could address you directly, but look sweetheart, there have been people in the world who have done some truly horrible things without ever imagining themselves to be evil. Hitler never thought of himself as evil. Neither did Charles Manson. Marilyn Manson would like for you to think he is evil, but just for fun. Can you really expect that an evil person will tell you that he or she is evil? Satanists don't actually worship anything. It's just a name for people who reject the evil and stupidity of organized religions. Satanists are not evil. People who kill in the name of God are evil.
returning to answering in order:
No.
No.

I'm not a Satanist, but I know a couple of them. I would say yes, it is a religion, but no, they do not believe in Satan.

The Satanists I know are atheists who practice LeVay Satanism, which is basically a form of hedonism with some rituals thrown in and the embracing of guilt as something to be enjoyed rather than avoided.

Yes. As far as I know, Satanism was invented as a freak out in the 60s'. After wards commercialized for its shock value. And so gained religion status for some maybe. With unabridged versions of a Satanic Bible and other best sellers probably available at Barns and Noble.
With a basis of self worship, (kinda like the Sith on Star wars.) It offers a unique view on modern religion, not to mention self esteem.
However it would not have carried much momentum or popularity with out fear from Christians.

I like some points of satnism and others I hate, but like stated above you're misinterpreting the religion. It's actually quite self-serving to be a satanist, as life is considered a self-indulgence.

The thing is with me though, is that I have a lot of beliefs in a lot of different religions - so i just made my own relision out of what I believe. I'd never force it, but I think that everybody should make their OWN religions, it would make things more interesting :).

LaVey Satanists don't actually believe in Satan. Their ideas are more like Ayn Rand with some spiritual mumbo-jumbo mixed in.

be careful if you plan to tread the path of a satanist.

Satanists use what they call "human nature" to make ends meet. They magnify negativity. They believe that lying, cheating, stealing, manipulation, and other negative actions are acceptable means to achieve power. The more people they hurt, the better.

They believe in God, obviously, because they believe in satan. Satan is an invention of the early christian church .

If you are interested in belief systems other than Chrisianity, I hope you will consider more positive paths. Hurting other people, spells of manipulation, ect, only draws negativity and you will only end up hurting yourself in the end.

Remember, what ever you do, good or bad, will return to you with three times the intensity you did it with.

Please be careful.
