Thats hard to answer b/c alot of things can go wrong, try to check your program u use for writing and check the laser lense to see if its dirty... also check your media( your cds ) to see if its compatible

First of all, which OS do u have ??

If its XP, make sure that all the IDE Channels are enabled in Device Manager, you can get to device manager by
RightClick Mycomputer-->manage-->Device manager

If theres a bang (exclamation mark) on any of the IDE controllers or devices, then u have a problem with the drivers or hardware itself.

For drivers, go to your manufacturers website.
All the best

You can purchase compressed air in a can to clean your drive. Target, Office Max, Best Buy, Wal Mart and many stores have this. Open the cdrom tray and spray the air in there. I ran into this problem before, and i just blew a lot of air in there and now it works again.
