tHERE IS A REASON YOU CAN NOT FIND THAT FOR WHICH YOU LOOK. pART OF IT IS POOR TRANSLATING AND THE MORE IMPORTANT PART IS THATOPPS this first statement is wrong with regards to what fornication actually is, at least in the new testiment.
You are going to love this.
If you review the powers of binding and loosing (sorry to lazy to find it but maybe Mat 18) you will observe that the apostles were given the right to make changes in the rules. Then go to chapters 10 and 15 of Acts about the Jeruesalem counsil where they exercised this power. There is a letter there regarding which parts of the law were applicable to Gentiles, that's us. There are not many but they are all about the same thing namely not worshiping other gods or the first commandment. One of the ways this was done was by the wives of one of the pagan religions of that time to perform regular duties as a temple prostitute. The men would give money to the temple to go into these temple prostitutes and it was considered an act of worship. That is the act named fornication. Preachers for years have said it was any act of extra marital sex but if you read carefully and observe the context it becomes obvious that one it is patronizing prostitutes but more importantly it was worshipping other gods. Admittedly this is the biggest secret in chistendom but a careful reading makes it obvious. One might expand the meaning to all prostitutes but it definately does not cover acts of love with any type of commitment. Other no nos are added later that do not fall under the few rules listed in this letter like gossiping murdering and some others but only if done as a lifestyle. One time experiences in these areas are not unforgivable and do not block ones entrance into heaven.

Marriage ceremonies becomes necessary when man's population grow and competition for partners become stiff. When law was created, partnership has to be ceremonially witnessed by the tribes so no one can take possession of any of the spouse after that. Sex before marriage was a religious law that helps people to prevent irresponsible child bearing and since that marriage is regarded as preparation for having a family then they made it into law so that there will be a careful consideration before anyone gets into a sexual relationship.
Making that a sin is the most effective way of guarding oneself from those activities and religion is the only means that could execute the law well with regards to moral grounds.

WOW - it's great that you're thinking about these kinds of things. There are so many ANSWERS in the bible that you'd be amazed. In fact, I discover more and more almost everyday. The original marriage did not require a ceremony or promises because everything was perfect. Adam and Eve had perfect character and a perfect love - they didn't need to pledge their love - the original marriage started with sex and there was nothing impure or sinful about it. There was no ceremony necessary. One man and one woman - it's as simple as that. Now, after the fall of man - things were different - our sin complicated everything. They had perfect communion with God already - He didn't have to perform a ceremony - one man and one woman was a given - there were only 2 of them to start! There's an absolutely fascinating website that you should really look at - it shows you lots of answers similar to questions like this. When you think about it - a marriage vow requires the possibility of infidelity or you wouldn't need to make a promise or pledge.

Life was much different in the days when the Bible was written. Prepare to be disappointed. If you really wanted to include everything that you feel is necessary, then you should have written it yourself and been in attendance at the council that decided what books were acceptable and not. Since it is believed that God dictated to man what was to be included in each book, then maybe you need to ask God himself why certain things were not included. They were omitted becasue they were *not* important to the society of those times. Christianity as it is today is Paul's doing, not Jesus's, which was nothing like the Judaism back then at any point, prior to or following Jesus's reformation of it.
As far as who performed the wedding ceremony, I'm pretty sure that was God when he created Eve becasue as the Bible says prior to that "It is not good for man to be alone".

There are lots of unanswered questions from that era.. My answer would be that Adam and Eve were made for each other, thus, they were Married, and that Marriage is actually a reflection of the relationship that Adam and Eve had, that God made a companion for Adam. They couldn't fornicate, because there was no other mate for either one to commit adultry with.

A lot of valuable information wasn't known when the Bible was written. Like electronics, for example.

you are obviously reading a poor english translation of the OT
sex outside your species is [sometimes] sinful
I believe that Adam and Eve had what would eventually be called a "common law" marriage....however, have you considered an even greater problem????
If Eve was "created" from Adam's rib...does that make her Adam's daughter? sister?
talk about an incestuous relationship !!!

The Bible is not the primary faith authority, nor was it ever designed to be.
Jesus founded the church and gave it the authority to govern, and to make rules to guide the faithful, through the Pope and the bishops.
It is the church which testifies to the divine, inerrant, and inspired nature of sacred scripture.
