i have hitch-hiked over 30,000km in 4 different continents, and no one can clarify this for me.

In the U.S. hitchiking is illegal - to pick someone up is not - this used to be posted on highways everywhere - guess it's not these days

In the United States--
On the Interstates, it's illegal. The rest of the roads depend on local laws. Usually, it's not illegal to give a ride to someone. Just dangerous.

The actual act of hitchhiking is illegal everywhere in America. Picking up hitchhikers is only illegal where posted, for example those big signs next to prisons that say 'No Stopping for Hitchhikers'.

It is legal to hitch hick in 44 states, and legal to pick up HH in all states. Local laws is what counts on WHERE someone may or may not HH. People should look up laws before posting **** they don t know anything about!

hitchhiking is illegal on the off and on ramps that i know of...on the interstate I'm not sure of..
