Wow, faith walker is just filled with christ's love isn't she. I think they may be the most hateful thing I've ever read on Y! Answers and sister, that's saying something.

Wow, I'd seen or heard of all those except the first and last links. I've done some particularly dedicated digging into the past of the Westboro Baptist Cult and know that the FRC is considered a hate group.
And I really couldn't tell you. I've never once in my life felt any sort of hate for homosexuals and can't for the life of my grasp why anyone else would. My best guess is fear and ignorance and projection.

When will they get off this choice thing? It totally pisses me off. My best friend and I have talked about this. She is going through a horrible divorce from a man that she has despised for the last 6 years. Me, I have not had a relationship in many years. She and I have been good friends for over 30 years and we love each other very much. We decided that wouldn't it be just great if we could actually choose to be sexually attracted to each other. We would have it made. Unfortunately, we just don't do it for each other, wrong equipment.
You got some hateful answers and I really pity them for the hate that those narrow minded brainwashed idiots have in their hearts out of ignorance.

It's the chicken and the egg argument again. I think a lot of bigots are obsessed with Christianity because The Bible can easily be adapted to support just about any moral code. People that are hateful want to believe they are justified instead of evil. The Bible is a convenient justification indeed (if you're a dolt).
---"splinter" (above) is a great example. She plays the victim while defending Christian bigotry. It's like a Klansman acting all butt-hurt because his black neighbors think he's an asshole.

Indeed. And why are some homosexuals obsessed with Christianity? More to the point, who gives a rat's a$$?
Oops. It isn't really me. I've been, uh, replaced by an evil clone, like what happened to WhyNotAskDon and the Whatshouldido guy.
Hey you!
Huh?
What are you doing sitting at my computer, you, you demented evil clone? Get out of my chair!
Hi. I'm back. Did I miss anything? What are we answering? Oooh, God's asking another Christians/homosexuality question. I've seen that godhatesfags site. What a lost soul there...
I think that a lot of extremist Christians are really worried that they are losing control of their world, but they see all the other people in the world as pawns in their game, pawns to send to hell for whatever reason, to blame for the breakdown that they see in their own family relations, to blame for political problems and to take the focus off of themselves and their own struggles with morality. There was a guy on this very discussion board recently who said he was "enraged with raging rage" or something like that because he saw unmarried people holding hands on the street.
I'll say this once, people. If you are really scared of what's in your pants, keep 'em on.

The only thing I can imagine is personal sexual hang-ups. The level of vitriol is so much higher for this and abortion than over torture, murder, capital punishment, or any other clearly moral issue.
And the political right capitalizes on it, manipulating the issue to gain votes so they can tax poorer people more and richer people less. It's astonishing how a sexual hang-up can lead people to work against their own best interest.

they are obsessed with it because it scares the living **** out of them, and instead of being adults and admitting that they hide behind "gods" scripture, scripture which they have interpreted in a way that benefits them.
Alot are obsessed with it because they feel that "god" has given them a mission to convert as many people as possible to the faith that they feel is the correct one. Its those ones that scare me the most, the hatefilled ones are mere annoyances to me, i laugh at them and their ridiculousness.

Standard psychology - we push away and attack that which is in us. See the classic experiments where homophobia was linked to homosexual arousal. And the reason people push it away is because of the negative religious/societal perspective on it. Ridiculous and contrived.

it's christian MEN
who are running this
fear-of-homosexuals train
christian women
are merely
downbeaten zealots
who follow obediently along
hatred of homosexuality
stems from ignorance,
and fear
ignorance of
natural human sexual interest,
fear of the erroneous meanings applied to choice
"live and let live"
only works for people who are
happy with their lives
anyone unhappy
with his life,
cannot let others
"live" differently than he does,
because he is afraid
that they are more happy and contented and peaceful
than he is
and,
he is afraid
that he will
join them
