I have always considered the statement to imply....."I pity you, you pathetic idiot". I guess....we interpreted the condescending statement the same way?

Of course circumstance could change things....like if I told a sad story about some trauma in my life, and someone said "I'll pray for you"....it would be a nice gesture. Most of the time, though, and when it is chronically stated it is intended to imply otherwise.

This is coming from a Catholic, not an evangelic. I'll pray for you means I'll pray for you. Maybe you've or others have said stupid things and Christians want to add you to their prayers so that God will open your eyes and ears to Him, to the Truth.

So, I'll be praying for you all this week to see if you start to understand it all. God Bless!

P.S. You don't suck and neither do I. We are all God's creation and He loves us all equally. Think about that for awhile.

P.P.S.S. I tend to pray for myself more than I pray for others because I know my sins and I know how much of God's help and grace I need so I pray for that. It may be selfish but then that's another thing I need to work on, pray on.

It's because it's the best way to say that they wish you the best. As in " I'll pray for your safety, if you plan to travel. Success, if you were called for a job interview. It is also a word of encouragement that whatever your plans are, will be successfull also telling you that you can make it.

No.... it is a term of care and respect, at least the way I use it...

So I will pray for you. That means that I will take time out of my busy day, to stop and think about you... and ask God to bless you... knowing that He will give me what I ask.

Jesus said, "As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."- John 13:34-35

A Christian.

The fact that you and other answers on here think that it is condescending show ur guilty convictions which means that you and others who are easily offended need much Prayer. You will reap what you sow,Unbelievers and Scoffers. I WILL continue to pray for you and others on this site who bash and ridicule.

I don't consider it as a nice way to say "you suck and I don't" instead I consider it as a nice comment but an annoying one. Maybe i shouldn't feel this way but it makes me feel like they feel sorry for me and I personally don't like to be felt sorry for. It makes me feel abnormal, below others. My brother is handicapped and is really bothers me when random people come up to my family and ask if they can pray for him. They never go up to "normal" children without disabilities and ask to pray for them. and my brother is no different. It shows that they feel sorry for him and they shouldn't because he loves life and is doing well.

I noticed someone was answering that for several questions. BTW it isn't always code for u suk & i don't . (In fact, that's a pretty uncharitable use of the phrase.) Sometimes people just don't know what else they can do to help. (;p

Hoping the best for you...

Because Jesus said to pray for unbelievers that their eyes and hearts might be opened, that means praying even for our enemies.

that is YOUR interpretation of "I'll pray for you".

When people say "I'll pray for you" it simply means they will pray for you.

Its difficult to understand why strangers would give a damn about your life.

But dont forget, we are to reflect Jesus' love for the world. And we love you, and so does Jesus, even if you dont believe it.
