It is way too early for mush. If there is a local feed store or pet store in your area, try getting bottles designed for rabbits, puppies, or kittens. The playtex nurser is too large for the puppies. The same store should carry canned milk, I think it's called Similac (it's been a while). Now, you will have to feed them every 2-3 hours. They are very young, and you might lose a few. But, if the mother won't feed them, and you want to try and save them, that is your only option.

Do you handle the pups alot? If so, try this trick. Get some baby powder and rub it on the mother's nose. Then, when you handle the pups, put powder on your hands. This way, your scent will be masked on the pups, and the mother may take to them a little easier. This was a trick I used to use on my rabbits. I also tried it with dogs, but some still don't take to the puppies.

Good luck!

They need either the mother's milk or puppy milk you find in the pet supply stores. There are also bottles for puppies. The nipple on the Platex Nurser may be too large for the pups and that's why they won't nurse.

I've had this problem before, and this is what I did.Go to the store and buy puppy milk replacer.Mix as directed.get some rice baby cereal(for human babies),and some plain, unsweetened yogurt(no artificial sweeteners ,either-these can kill dogs)Add about 3-4 tablespoons of the cereal to a cup of puppy milk, plus a few teaspoons of the yogurt.Put some on your finger and let the pups suck it off. After they find that it's tasty, carefully dip their mouths into a shallow saucer of the mixture. When they start to lick it off of their lips, put their mouths to the dish again.Soon they will be eating on their own. Feed every three hours during the day,as much as the puppies will eat,and when they wake up at night ..As they get older(4 weeks),you can start to add a bit of meat (canned puppy food or baby food meat) to the mixture, followed by moistened dry puppy food.,and decrease the feeds to four a day.by the time they are 7 weeks old they should be eating only puppy food(a mixture of dry and canned),moistened with just a bit of water, three times a day..It's really not too difficult.Your pups should be fine.

Ive bred Great Danes and she had a litter of 9. She fed well but they needed "topping up". I used a baby bottle and fed them supplement for many sleepless nights and days for the first 3 weeks. They are a bit young but if they are hungry enough they will take milk from anything. Try to drop a few drops from the teat into their mouths just enough to give them a taste and slowly get the tea closer to their mouths and they will take to the bottle. The vet will have a supplement for them and tell you how much your puppies need per feed and how many feeds a day. If that doesn't work buy baby food (in Australia we call it Farax which is like cereal for weaning babies) and use the milk supplement from the vet to make it pretty wet. wet enough to even go through the teat. I wish you and the "kids" good luck.

First of all, a playtex nurser is for a big pup. Go to any pet or feed store or Wal-Mart. All sell puppy formula. Pet shops sell small bottles. The pups are way too young to eat food.

I like the NUK newborn sized nipple for all puppies..You can actually bend the nipple and 'milk' the formula into their mouth, in the amount they will swallow without getting choked..It is firm enough to get them to take it, and soft enough that they don't hate it..You can get them at any pharmacy, so if you have a Walgreens or WalMart, you can get during off hours..Most pharmacies will even have preemie nipples, but even small dogs do well with the NUK.
It is a little early for mush food. You can begin that during their 3rd week...

You may literally have to hold the female down and talk to her calmly to let her to get the pups to nurse, they need the mothers milk to build up their imune system, just keep working with the mother, if this is her first litter she may just need a little encouragement to let them nurse.

get a baby pup bottle from the vet or maybe a phamacie..your vet should stock the special puppy milk..the teats are very small on the special pup bottles...dont make the milk too warm,,,just very slightly warm..like tepid...and feed them six times a day

They are too young for that. Why don't you just make the dam go into the whelping box and lay down? You may have to stay with her to keep her there.
