I'm more inclined to believe just the opposite.

According to what I have been reading on this medium, everyone is accusing all of their government officials of telling gross lies about everything.

I think it is more accurate to ask, Why are so many people so sure that the government is lying to them?

President Bush has been accused of everything including changing the weather, bombing the twin towers, causing the Katrina Hurricane, and hiding an invasion force on the dark side of the moon.

Now if that doesn't tell you that the American People are approaching paranoia then nothing will.

Our educational system encourages people to believe our govt is full of men whose virtue exceeds even the founders. They do this by not telling us most of our history. It's really sad when you start to get an education. As my dad recently said, we're little more than a nearly former white supremacist state. I believe that our founders let the genie out of the bottle - tj knew what he was doing and accepted the limitations of his time. He did believe in the future, he cast his precious ideas to the future and hoped we'd do the right thing. - I've come to despair that we'll rise to the occasion. People seem to love their delusions. And facing how much citizens are needed to keep democracy functioning makes a lot of people want to just have a king, no?

I have actually never meet a single person that believes everything the government tells them. Maybe I hang around smarter people than you do. Get some new friends.

Because when they lie or commit an indiscretion, they get exposed:

Richard Nixon
Bill Clinton
Col. North
Mark Foley
Etc...Etc..

And they don't get exposed on web sites and blogs by conspiracy theories, rumors and outright lies - they get exposed by verifiable and valid facts.
Capital Hill is under a 24/7 microscope by independent watch dog groups, independent reporters, the media, the opposing parties and authors hungry for a good plot.

People are like sheep - as long as they are warm and fed, they don't care what the government does. That is, of course, unless the price of gas goes up. The only thing Americans care about is money, their cell phones, McDonalds and their SUVs. Hell, they don't even care about trying to be healthy ( fattest country in the world ) so what makes you think they would have any interest in what the government does?

Fools are free all the world over.

There are more ideas on earth than intellectuals imagine. And these ideas are more active, stronger, more resistant, more passionate than "politicians" think.

We have to be there at the birth of ideas, the bursting outward of their force: not in books expressing them, but in events manifesting this force, in struggles carried on around ideas, for or against them.

Ideas do not rule the world. But it is because the world has ideas... that it is not passively ruled by those who are its leaders or those who would like to teach it, once and for all, what it must think.

For the same reason that ignorant, brainwashed people listen to the media and Michael Moore over the truth. It's easy to believe the government lies, when people like Michael Moore lie and tell you the Government is, then create propoganda films to show their version of "the truth."

His major themes are his status as the spokesman of the working class, the evils of capitalism, and the selfishness of (all other) Americans.

It would be easy to denounce Moore as a hypocrite. Many conservatives denounce him as a leftist, when in fact the serious left, the thinking left, generally finds him appalling. He is the latest in the modern breed of Limosine Leftists -- individuals who, while personally they share the values of 19th century robber barons, find it flattering to adopt a thin veneer of leftism as a pose, in the same manner they pick a flattering hair style or gown. (A left-leaning critic of Moore summed up the situation very nicely: Moore's appeal lies in his giving wealthy, over-educated, whites an opportunity to laugh at working-class whites.)

Should a 400 lb man advise us on the evils of over-consumption?
Should the resident of a million-dollar apartment claim to be a poster boy of the working class?
Should a person who thought that Enron was a great investment, that Ralph Nader, Wesley Clark and John Kerry would win, and that North Korea's Kim Jong was changing for the better, advise us on ANYTHING?
Michael Moore is a paradox. A millionaire who boasts of wealth as proving his value -- "I'm a millionaire, I'm a multi-millionaire. I'm filthy rich. You know why I'm a multi-millionaire? 'Cause multi-millions like what I do. That's pretty good, isn't it?"

Because they are so convincing. I don't give a sh*t about what the government tells me though. I get my parents to vote for what I think is good for the state or country after conducting thorough research.
