Only in a very discreet way. I may pull out a mint or piece of gum for myself, and as if almost an afterthought ask them if they would like some. If it is a family member, yes I may say something to them directly like..."you could use a mint"...but my family is like that with each other.

Offer him/her an over-the-counter product called "Breath Assure". It is a small box with many, many tiny round capsules of sunflower and parsley seed oil in it. It will cure any bad breath, and it is good for the digestion as well. No amount of mouthwash will cure really bad breath because one of the major causes has its origins in the stomach. Really....actually, this stuff is really an old- fashioned remedy used before modern drug companies got in on the act. The capsules make it very portable though.
Offer it to your friend with a strong recommendation to take it so you can breathe when he/she comes near!!

It all depends on how close you are to the person. Family, sure, do them a big favour and tell them. Accquaintance? Offer the mint. Someone you have to have a conversation with? Just cover your nose and turn your head away. Discreetly. If you have to face them, breath very shallowly, through your mouth. But sometimes they just don't take the hint.

That's so disgusting. That rotten, nasty breath smell is WORSE than the 'opposite end.' Honestly, I probably wouldn't even bother saying something about it. I'd just never ever talk to that person ever again.

It's disgusting.

Hell yes! Better u tell em in a nice n sensitive way which considers their feelings, than some shmuck tell em they have the breath of a hippo's butt.

If you care about them , I think they need to know. Do it in private and nicely. Like...."Johnny, I don't want to hurt your feelings but you have a bit of bad breath. Are you feeling ill or have a toothache? "
