OMG whatever you do , do not have sex 5 days after your period. You are probably highly fertile then. I can't believe someone told you that. First of all, depending on your age and hormonal status its theoretically possible to ovulate at any given time w/out you realizing. However, if you are like me, and have been hormone free (I mean artificial hormones, like the pill) and have regular periods every month, and along w/this you get hormonal acne, and PMS, food cravings and it is obvious to you that you will get your period soon, then you are safe to have sex. This is because when you are PMSing, you have already ovulated, and its too late to get pregnant at this point. But do not under any circumstances have sex in the two weeks after your period or on your period. You can get pregnant, depending on when you ovulate. The very safest times are when you know you are about ready to start your period. But not after you have had it. The calender method would have you believe you can get pregnant on day 6-13 of your cycle. Those are truly the most fertile days, but what if you ovulated late, not until day 14 that month? Then you are screwed if you had sex on day 13...if you see what I am saying. So its better to wait un til your period is almost ready to start.

The whole point of sex is to reproduce. If you want to take reproductive actions (sex =D) without reproducing then you might as well try to be a rock star without learning to sing and wright songs.

My point is, the only way to have sex without getting pregnant is abstinence (I know, cheezy, but true.). There are ways to have sex and try to prevent getting pregnant but unless your interested in having your ovaries or testicles (or your partners parts) removed permanently, than I suggest you wait until you're in a situation where you can have a child while with someone and actually support it. If you don't, you might end up having to support your child on your own 9 or so months from now.

As for the safest way since it has already kinda been said, I can't really tell you a good time period wise but if you use things such as condoms, birth control, a diagram (sp? o-O), or spermicide which all would increase the chances (but can't 100% promise) of not getting pregnant. For info on such things that were listed search them and click on .org or .edu websites and you can find out what they are from there. (Sorry, kinda to difficult to go into without explaining extensively, hopefully you know what condoms and the pill is if your thinking about having sex).

The only time you're safe from not getting pregnant is when you are pregnant! Don't ever ever ever trust a "safe period"!

Use contraceptive. Condoms are free at Planned Parenthood and you can get the pill there as well. If you are concerned with your parents finding out, they won't as long as you are going to PP.

Be safe!

You take a chance everytime you have sex no matter what really...
I thought that you couldn't get pregnant while on your period (so many people have told me that) and my and my hubby would have sex on my period using no birth control and sure enough i got pregnant while on my period so don't believe that myth.

You could try this: http://www.yourfreedays.com

Or go to http://www.mymonthlycycles.com and put in your period info and it will calculate when you will be fertile and ovulating.

Both are free websites
