If this is an Excel file:

Without going into filters, a quick and easy solution would be to click the "select all" button (to the left of A, above 1). This will highlight the entire file.

cl Data
cl Sort
Assuming the columns have headings, where it says "sort by" -- cl the down arrow to indicate the heading for "salary." Where it says "then by" -- cl the down arrow to indicate "lastname."
cl where it asks to indicate you have a header
Entries will be in order of salary.

To restore the file to its original sort, click the "undo" button or reset the options in Data, Sort.
