Well water probably affects cats and humans similarly.
Will it kill your cat or make him sick? Probably not. But if your cat has a weak immune system, or if you unlucky and have some dangerous bacteria or something, then your cat could get sick.
I personally would never drink well water on a regular basis, nor would I let my pet do so. But I'm probably overly protective/caring.

In my opinion it can not do your cat any more harm than it can you. Actually they have stronger stomachs that we do when it comes to impurity's. If your worried about it get a filtration system for your drinking water in the house and that should take care of any issues. I would not worry though. Think of all the cats that are outdoor cats that are drinking out of puddles and creeks while they are out scavenging around.

cat's drink out of mud puddles, it should not effect it, but is this a well that is being used for people? If it is an abandoned or stagnant well then I would not allow it.

if your well is contaminated, it can be harmful 2 all.. i had 2 put 2 gallons of bleach in my well 2 clean the cloudyness up.. but i wouldn't wash dark clothes or water my pets with it till the smell of bleach was gone.. that took a week.. but you can read up about well water on line.. google it by typing well water in the search bar..
